Development Director A global digital infrastructure developer delivering flexible, efficient, and resilient data center solutions worldwide. Founded by an industry pioneer, the company is rapidly scaling its platform with active and planned campuses across North America, Europe, Asia, and Latin America.
As part of a significant growth phase across Europe, the organization is expanding its owner-side development capability and is seeking senior development leadership to deliver the next generation of hyperscale data center campuses.
Role Overview The Development Director will be a senior leader within the EMEA Development team, responsible for the end-to-end development of multiple data center projects across Germany, Switzerland, and Austria, with a substantial active pipeline.
This is an owner-side role with full lifecycle accountability from site acquisition and due diligence through planning, pre-construction, and transition into construction. The role emphasizes speed to market, quality, capital discipline, and risk management.
During construction, the Development Director will maintain technical and commercial oversight, acting as the senior representative and key interface with construction teams, contractors, designers, investors, and tenants.
This position does not replace construction delivery but ensures senior-level alignment, governance, and decision-making.
The regional team is in a formative stage, offering the opportunity to shape development strategy, build local capability, and influence delivery across the DACH region.
Key Responsibilities Support site acquisition and lead technical, commercial, and planning due diligence Oversee project development through feasibility, permitting, and pre-construction phases Act as the senior interface with authorities, municipalities, utilities, and stakeholders Manage multidisciplinary consultant teams (architects, engineers, planners, advisors) Drive utility strategies (power, water, fibre) with internal teams Lead tendering, contractor selection, and early procurement activities Provide governance and oversight during construction as the owner’s representative Report progress to internal leadership, investors, and tenants Support the growth of local development and project teams Ensure compliance with EHS standards and regulatory requirements
Required Skills and Experience Strong owner-side development experience on large-scale, complex projects in the DACH region Proven ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and manage multiple projects Strong commercial and contractual knowledge Experience engaging with senior stakeholders (investors, utilities, authorities, contractors, tenants) Strategic mindset with a hands-on delivery approach Willingness to travel across the region
Languages Business-fluent English required German strongly preferred
Education and Background Degree in Engineering, Architecture, Construction, or related field (or equivalent experience) 10+ years of relevant experience Data center experience preferred; candidates from mission-critical, life sciences, semiconductor, or high-tech sectors also considered This is a remote position - whilst ideally residing near Frankfurt, the candidate can be based in Germany, Switzerland or Austria
