Position Overview:
We are looking for a passionate and talented Senior Computer Vision and Robotics Engineer to join SmartAIs as a founding engineer and early employee. In this pivotal role, you will have the unique opportunity to shape the core technology of our AI-powered assistant for blind and visually impaired individuals.
You will work hands-on with state-of-the-art classical, and AI-based computer vision, robotics, autonomous driving technologies, and multimodal AI, developing groundbreaking solutions that make real-world impact. Beyond technical contributions, you will play a key role in driving architectural decisions, research, and innovation, helping to build a product that enhances accessibility and independence for millions.
Key Responsibilities:
* Develop and enhance 2D and 3D computer vision algorithms (both classical and AI-based) for autonomous driving, mobile robot navigation, and assistive technologies, with a primary focus on perception, obstacle detection and avoidance.
* Test and evaluate the obstacle detection functionality in challenging real-world scenarios, across diverse environments, and validate performance through user testing with blind individuals.
* Contribute to the development of a robust software infrastructure, designed to handle complex systems and high-dependency algorithms, by i mplementing best practices in software development, ensuring modularity, efficiency, and maintainability.
* Optimize the system and algorithms for real-time performance on edge device s, like smartphones and smart glasses.
* Stay ahead of industry trends by keeping up with the latest advancement s in computer vision, deep learning, and robotics, integrating cutting-edge techniques into our technology stack.
* Preferred but Optional:
Contribute to the development of our conversational AI assistant using multimodal models
Qualifications:
* Education:
Master’s or PhD in Robotics, Computer Science, Autonomous Systems, or a related field.
* Experience:
* 3+ years of relevant experience working on perception and obstacle avoidance algorithms for mobile robots, drones, or autonomous vehicles .
* Experience with both classical and AI-based approaches.
* Experience with ROS / ROS2 (Robot Operating System), Nav2, and frameworks for real-time robotics applications .
* Strong understanding of software architecture for complex systems with high dependencies, with experience in building modular, scalable, and maintainable software following best development practices.
* Programming Languages:
Proficient in Python and C++. Experience using AI-powered coding assistants such as Copilot, Cursor, and ChatGPT .
* Interests:
Strong interest in classical and deep learning-based computer vision, autonomous navigation, and robotics. Eager to stay updated on the latest advancements in these fields.
* Additional Skills (Preferred but Optional):
Experience in multimodal AI models for conversational AI assistant development.
