Your role at Baxter

This position reports directly to the Head of Government Affairs & Market Development, EMEA, and will manage and lead the company’s government affairs, market development and public policy functions for the DACH region (Germany, Austria, Switzerland). This position will be involved in the company’s commercial business development, educational program development and regulatory strategies across Baxter’s Kidney Care business across the DACH region.

This role could be based in Unterschleißheim, near Munich or home based in Germany.

What you'll be doing

1. Advise and counsel the company's executives on public policy and governmental matters, including pending legislation/regulations and policy initiatives and their potential implications to the company.

2. Develop, in partnership with company executives and the regional business unit head, the company’s government relations and public policy strategy and agenda in the region to help prioritize actions and resources.

3. Develop public affairs strategies to support market development and patient access.

4. Facilitate project management and hands on implementation of public affairs engagements.

5. Develop and manage patient advocacy relationships and other relevant alliances.

6. Participate and engage in trade organizations, non-governmental organizations and strategic industry groups that the Kidney Care segment is a member in to influence legislation, regulations and public policy that affect the industry and advance the company’s interests.

7. Bring and develop strong external relationships with key government officials in the central government, Members of Parliament, their staff and administrative agency personnel on issues of importance to the company such as expanding access to kidney care in the region.

8. Assist in government business transactions with Ministries of Health, Finance and other relevant government agencies.

9. Develop thought leadership and influence commercial strategies.

10. Develop, in partnership with universities, government agencies, and key opinion leaders in the region, education programs and symposia to improve adoption of best clinical practices.

11. Manage and balance external and internal resources.

What you'll bring

We are seeking candidates with 8-15 years of governmental or non-governmental organization and/or trade or industry association experience and/or experience within the private sector including:

12. Leading and building strong external working relationships to key decision makers and environments in health and business

13. Knowledge and ability to appropriately influence the political/policy process, including working with and managing consultants

14. Experience in public policy making and public affairs processes

15. Experience in developing and using the public affairs toolbox

16. Experience in developing partnerships with trade associations and other industry partners to push an agenda

17. Formulating and implementing business development, government relations and external affairs policies

18. Demonstrated ability to analyze key regulatory and policy issues with respect to the company’s strategic goals and to focus on those issues that advance (or could potentially inhibit) the company’s competitive business interests

19. Ability to understand and influence the digital maturity of the governments & other bodies they interact with

20. Demonstrated ability to partner effectively with internal business stakeholders

21. Record of achievement and accomplishment.

22. Organized and a self-starter and comfortable working within a team located across the region

23. Fluent in both written and spoken English and German
