Key Publishing Role

To be part of this strategically relevant team, candidates must possess a PhD or master's degree in life sciences or medicine. A minimum of 5 years of experience in the international academic publishing industry is also required, with at least 3 years of operational leadership and project management experience. Additionally, strong knowledge of publishing ethics, editorial policy, procedures, and practice is necessary.
Job Responsibilities
* Develop and implement business strategies for portfolio management, including strategic review and development of existing portfolios and future strategy planning that may involve journal launches and acquisitions.
* Manage and grow key publishing programs by defining journal development plans aligned with overall organizational strategy, setting quality and scope of journals strategically in line with market developments.
* Demonstrate skills in team management, including communication, people development, managing change, time management, and conflict resolution.
* Ensure continuous quality management and improvement on journal level regarding decisions on resources and service standards, maintaining publishing quality, ethics, and standards.
* Monitor and report KPIs regularly, taking action as needed, and utilize data-led approaches to drive portfolio management and development in line with strategic objectives.
* Build and develop close working relationships with research communities, understanding trends and changes in served communities and adjusting portfolio strategy accordingly.
Requirements
* PhD or master's degree preferably in life sciences or medicine.
* Minimum 5 years of experience in the international academic publishing industry.
* Minimum 3 years proven operational leadership and project management experience, along with experience in managing an international portfolio of scientific journals and transitioning journals into open access.
* Excellent knowledge of all aspects of publishing ethics, editorial policy, procedures, and practice.
* Strategic thinking, analytical skills, and entrepreneurial mindset.
* Negotiation skills and outstanding communication skills with stakeholders at all levels in written and spoken English, with German language being a plus.
* Ability to work collaboratively as a team member, comfortable with co-ownership of shared goals and high level of personal accountability.
* Willingness to undertake national and international travel for conference attendance, site visits, and meetings.
