The Functional Safety Manager (FSM) at indie plays a central role in supporting and strengthening the company’s automotive safety culture. This position reports to the Director of Functional Safety and Cybersecurity and provides independent functional safety oversight across projects. The FSM partners closely with development and application teams to assess functional safety requirements and support product development to ensure compliance with applicable safety standards. This role also represents indie in functional safety matters with customers and external stakeholders. Key Responsibilities Provide functional safety leadership to internal teams and external stakeholders across programs and projects Serve as the functional safety gatekeeper at each lifecycle phase Coordinate with customer functional safety teams on technical topics and planning activities (e.g., DIA) Audit and assess functional safety work products for assigned projects Develop, tailor, and maintain safety plans; manage functional safety activities to ensure timely and high-quality completion of work products Schedule and coordinate confirmation reviews as defined in the safety plan Plan and conduct functional safety assessments in collaboration with program/project managers Clearly communicate status, risks, and mitigation plans related to functional safety work products to project and senior management Manage third-party audits and assessments (e.g., TÜV assessments) Ensure adherence to approved safety plans Monitor and review critical technical functional safety work products (e.g., Technical Safety Concepts, Safety Analyses) for completeness and accuracy Evaluate customer safety systems to recommend appropriate safety architectures Train and support engineering teams on functional safety principles and best practices Required Qualifications BS or MS in Natural Sciences, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field 5 years of experience in the semiconductor industry (e.g., design, test, or quality) 5 years of experience applying ISO 26262, with strong theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience Strong manufacturing and quality engineering background Strong data analysis, interpersonal, and communication skills Customer-oriented, detail-oriented, and reliable work style Experience with documentation and requirements management systems (e.g., JAMA) Solid understanding of ISO 26262 and automotive engineering principles Experience developing safety documentation (e.g., Safety Case, DFMEA, MSR-FMEA, FMEDA, FTA, DFA) Preferred Qualifications ISO 26262 Functional Safety Certification (e.g., FSSP) Experience with requirements management tools (JAMA experience preferred) Experience with safety analysis tools (e.g., Ansys Medini Analyze) Knowledge of product development lifecycles for systems, hardware, and software Strong technical leadership, planning, and organizational skills Self-motivated with strong problem-solving abilities Familiarity with automotive quality standards and processes (e.g., AEC, FMEA, Control Plans, PPAP, IATF 16949, VDA 6.3) Willingness to travel domestically and internationally indie Semiconductor and its subsidiaries are equal opportunity, inclusive employers and will consider all applicants without regard to age, ancestry, color, marital status, medical condition, mental or physical disability, national origin, race, religion, political and/or third-party affiliation, sex, pregnancy, sexual orientation, gender identity, military or veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
