Overview BIOWEG is seeking a motivated and hands-on Scientist to drive fermentation-based projects focused on the development of biopreservative and bioacid systems. The role involves working primarily with Lactobacillus strains and contributing to the sustainable valorization of fermentation side streams for applications in the food and cosmetic industries. Your Role Lead and execute fermentation projects involving lactic acid bacteria (especially Lactobacillus) from planning through execution, data analysis, and reporting Develop and optimize bioacid and biopreservative solutions for food and cosmetic applications Identify and implement strategies to valorize fermentation side streams and improve process sustainability and product value Design, perform and monitor laboratory and pilot-scale fermentation experiments, including process optimization and troubleshooting Conduct analytical evaluation of fermentation samples, including metabolite profiling and process monitoring Analy z e experimental data and present technical results with clear recommendations and improvement strategies Ensure adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and support their review and improvement Prepare and maintain technical and quality documentation (e.g., experimental plans, protocols, batch records, validation reports) Maintain safe laboratory practices and comply with internal safety and regulatory requirements Perform and promote aseptic working techniques during microbial cultivation, fermentation, sampling and downstream handling Collaborate with cross-functional teams, external partners and stakeholders to ensure efficient project execution Support process scale-up, technology transfe r and continuous improvement initiatives Your Profile PhD or Master’s degree in Biotechnology, Microbiology, Fermentation Technology, Biochemical Engineering, Food Technology or a related field 3–5 years of hands-on experience in industrial or applied fermentation projects Practical experience with lactic acid bacteria or similar microbial systems strongly preferred Solid understanding of bioacids, microbial preservation systems and their applications in food or cosmetics Experience in project management and multidisciplinary collaboration Strong knowledge of fermentation process development, optimization and troubleshooting Strong analytical skills for fermentation monitoring and product characterization Hands-on experience with analytical techniques such as HPLC, including method execution and data interpretation Understanding of quality systems, GMP-like documentation and regulatory requirements Expertise in aseptic techniques and microbiological methods Structured, proactive and deadline-oriented working style Excellent scientific communication, data presentation and problem-solving skills About us BIOWEG is a purpose-driven company developing bio-based alternatives to fossil-based ingredients using Biotech and Green Chemistry.
