We want an earth that is worth living on. Our applied research in Circular Economy, Carbon Management, Green Hydrogen and Local Energy Systems makes concrete contributions to achieving the 17 Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations. As an institute of the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, we show how to not only master challenges, but grow with them. We push boundaries, think ahead and shape the future with applied research. Diverse perspectives and approaches strengthen creativity and innovation in our scientific work.
Would you like to help us shape a sustainable world? We are looking for reinforcement!
Reducing CO₂ emissions in industrial processes is necessary to achieve climate targets. Waste incineration plants unavoidably generate flue gases containing CO₂, the recycling of which through separation and utilization in a low-temperature electrolysis (NTCE) to synthesis gas (CO, H₂) is a future-oriented approach. The aim of this master's thesis is to select and analytically design a technically and economically viable absorber system for the separation of CO₂ from flue gases. The focus is on the scientific evaluation of the technologies, the analytical design of the fluid-dynamic processes and a critical assessment with regard to feasibility and cost.
What you will do
* Literature and patent research on CO₂ capture technology
* Critical comparison and selection of suitable absorber technologies
* Analytical design and dimensioning of a CO₂ absorber system
* Evaluation of technical and economic feasibility
* Documentation and scientific discussion of the results
What you bring to the table
* Studies in process engineering, chemical engineering, environmental engineering or similar
* Basic knowledge of thermodynamic and fluid dynamic design
* Ability to carry out independent scientific research and evaluation
* Confident handling of engineering software and analytical calculation methods
* Very good written and spoken German or English skills
* Initial experience with CO₂ separation technologies
* Knowledge in the creation of process flow diagrams (PFD/ P&ID)
* Experience in using CAD software (e.g. SolidWorks, AutoCAD)
* Knowledge in the field of economic evaluation or techno-economic analyses
* Experience with scientific documentation and presentations
