What to expect:

In the EMFAF research project “IQ-Wels-MV” for the breeding adaptation of the African catfish to recirculating aquaculture and the genetically based trait enrichment of positive performance characteristics features, we are offering a position in the reproduction and husbandry of African catfish in a recirculating aquaculture system (RAS).

The position is characterized by a high degree of responsibility for the animals (animal welfare and health), a high level of technical understanding of RAS technology, fish farming parameters, and the entire production process of the fish farm.

A high degree of independence at work is expected, especially for the rearing of young fish, which is linked to production in terms of time. As part of the project, the technical requirements for setting up a pedigree-based breeding program (breeding value estimation) will be established.

In addition to organizing fish production, another task is therefore the regular and largely independent manual phenotyping of large numbers of fish of different age groups and fish families.

The project position is based at our cooperation partner Nutrition & Food GmbH in Lüchow, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania (production approx. 400-600 t/year) and will be integrated into the operational processes on site.

After the successful completion of the project, the aim is to transfer the position to the staff of the cooperation partner in Lüchow, which will be supported by the FBN.
