As a Manufacturing Engineer, you are responsible for developing and maintaining methods, operating sequences, and processes in the fabrication of parts, components, subassemblies, and final assemblies. You'll work closely with other engineering functions to coordinate the release of product improvements and new products, and you'll use engineering principles to estimate and reduce manufacturing costs, improve product quality, determine time standards, and make recommendations for tooling and process requirements. Your expertise in lean principles, automation, and continuous improvement will be instrumental in driving operational excellence and achieving higher levels of productivity and cost-effectiveness. You'll develop and use test procedures, evaluate test results, and assess work methods, procedures, and policies to identify root cause issues and solutions that ensure operational success.
Role Overview
As a Manufacturing Engineer at Applied Materials - Munich office, you will play a key role in shaping stable, efficient, and scalable manufacturing operations across assembly and test. You will work at the intersection of engineering, manufacturing, quality, and supply chain, supporting both current production and new product introductions.
This position is designed for a high-potential candidate who not only brings strong technical and problem-solving capabilities, but also demonstrates the leadership mindset, ownership, and communication skills required to act as a future deputy for the Manufacturing Manager.
Main Responsibilities
1. Develop, maintain, and continuously improve manufacturing methods, processes, and operating sequences for assemblies, modules, and systems.
2. Lead manufacturing engineering activities across the product lifecycle, including early product development (PLC), ramp-up, and stable production.
3. Drive issue identification and resolution on the shop floor using structured problem-solving methods (NCs, DMRs, SPS, RCCA, PFMEA).
4. Own and coordinate build and test documentation (e.g. OMS, White Book) ensuring accuracy, compliance, and manufacturability.
5. Orchestrate and execute change control activities (ECO, NSR, CCB, CES), ensuring impacts on quality, cost, delivery, and capacity are managed.
6. Lead and support Design for Excellence (DFx) initiatives to improve quality, reduce cost, and optimize cycle time and operational efficiency.
7. Provide strong floor support and technical guidance to manufacturing teams, suppliers, and contract manufacturers.
8. Plan, coordinate, and support controlled builds, site transitions, and production ramp activities to ensure stable and repeatable output.
9. Manage manufacturing engineering projects, including tooling, fixturing, line design, and process validation.
10. Act as a technical and organizational role model by mentoring junior engineers and supporting leadership tasks as deputy to the Manufacturing Manager.
