In the role of a Surfacing Engineer you'll focus on the development, optimization and industrialization of surfacing processes (generating, polishing, edging) for optical lenses and in particular for prescription lenses, while supporting the evaluation of alternative manufacturing methods and prototyping processes.
- Plan and execute trials for new materials, lens geometries and prototype manufacturing
- Document results and provide recommendations on feasibility and scalability
- Develop and optimize machines, tools and process parameters for generating (grinding, milling, turning), polishing and edging of optical components and in particular prescription lenses made of various plastic and mineral materials
- Collaborate with equipment suppliers on process capability, hard- and software upgrades and acceptance tests
- Establish robust process windows and standard operating procedures to ensure quality, repeatability and yield to support a smooth transfer from lab/prototype stage into stable series production
- Analyze process performance, implement continuous improvements and support troubleshooting of production issues
- Take care of preventive maintenance of the equipment
Profil- Bachelor's degree in production engineering, mechanical engineering, precision engineering, or related field
- Experienced in lens surfacing or precision optics manufacturing in an industrial environment
- Practical knowledge of lens surfacing machinery (e.g. freeform generators, polishers, edgers) and associated process parameters
- Experience with optical quality standards and inspection methods
- Systematic, structured approach to process development and documentation
- Ability to work hands-on with machines, tools and measurement equipment in a production or lab environment
