Duties Description Located at Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park, the Long Island Regional Archives serves as an archival repository and assists with regional programs and events by creating interpretive panels and displays. Prospective applications, under the supervision of the Regional Curator, will be responsible for accessioning and digitizing historic documents and objects in the collection, maintaining the cleanliness of archival facilities, and reporting to the Curator any concerns related to pest management, temperature and humidity, and
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Under the supervision of the Long Island Region Curator 1 and other Long Island State Park regional staff, prospective assistants will:
• Create inventories and/or finding aids for incoming historic collections and objects.
• Accession and digitize historic documents and objects.
• Maintain the cleanliness of archival storage areas including regular dusting, vacuuming, and other cleaning tasks.
• Assist with pest management and monitoring temperature and humidity in archival storage areas.
• Assist researchers and complete research requests
• Submit proposals to the Curator 1 with recommendations for collections management projects, environmental control, pest management, and security related to the archival storage spaces.
• Will seldomly be expected to travel to other State Parks on Long Island for events and meetings.
• Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications No minimum qualifications per Civil Service.
Preferred qualifications:
• Experience using TMS Collections or a related Collections Management System.
• Some knowledge of local history, New York State Parks, Robert Moses, or related topics and themes a plus.
• Motivated to work in a collaborative environment.
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
