W3 or W2TTW3 Professorship for Pharmaceutical Biology
by the next possible date.
We welcome applications from suitably qualified candidates (m/f/d) with a proven track record within pharmaceutical biology, both in research and teaching. The successful candidate should have an excellent international reputation, demonstrated through publications in a current field of pharmaceutical biology or related disciplines such as microbiology, biochemistry, biotechnology, genetics, or chemical biology, each related to pharmaceutically relevant agents. The research focus lies on topics such as anti-infectives, drug-related structural biology, RNA biology, or mechanisms of action/signal transduction of natural products, as well as the production, discovery, or degradation of pharmaceutically relevant agents, in order to meaningfully strengthen and complement the existing scientific focus of the institute. Successful acquisition of third-party funding and leadership skills are required. Our future colleague will cooperate in an interdisciplinary manner and contribute his or her knowledge to the dialogue with society. The approbation as a pharmacist is desirable but not a strict requirement. The position involves teaching pharmaceutical biology in German language as part of our State Examination Programme in Pharmacy. In addition, diploma theses are supervised in the Diploma degree programme in Pharmacy.
The successful applicant is expected to contribute to the institute’s portfolio of grant awards, scientific publications and to cooperate closely with members of the institute, the faculty and neighbouring faculties, primarily medicine and chemistry. Furthermore, the successful applicant’s expertise should support existing research consortia, e.g., the cluster of excellence Balance of the Microverse. The willingness to cooperate with work groups of subject-related areas of the university and non-university institutes, such as the Leibniz Institutes on Aging, for Natural Product Research and Infection Biology, and of Photonic Technology, and the associated priorities of university research is assumed.
In order to be eligible for the position, candidates must have a completed degree, pedagogical aptitude, a particular aptitude for academic work demonstrated by a doctorate as well as a Habilitation or equivalent academic achievements. Providing legal requirements are met, the candidate will be appointed as civil servant on a permanent basis. In the case of a first-time appointment to a professorship, the professorship shall initially be filled as a W2 professorship for a fixed term of six years. After a maximum of six years and subject to a positive tenure evaluation, appointment to a W3 professorship shall take place without the vacancy being readvertised.
