Your tasks
1. Preparation of modern and historical samples for DNA-based molecular work. Including sample intake and extraction of high-quality DNA from a range of species (e.g. big cats, amphibians) and sample types (e.g. tissue, hair).
2. Daily management of the wet lab, including ordering of reagents/kits/plastics, access management, quality control of work. Preparation of all reagents, buffers, solutions. Ordering and communication with vendors.
3. Management and documentation of samples and extracts in physical archive (-80 °C) and in-house digital database.
4. Preparation of Next-Generation Sequencing Libraries for whole genome sequencing, reference genome grade sequencing, and reduced representation sequencing. Use of all major sequencing technologies possible (i.e. Illumina/Oxford Nanopore, PacBio technologies). Learning new skills, methods, and apply emerging genomic technologies is needed.
5. Ability to conduct basic molecular procedures like PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA fluorometry quantification, Sanger sequencing independently.
6. Support of new scientific staff in the lab by providing key training and overseeing safety (e.g. MSc thesis students and PhD students).
7. Support of permit acquisitions (e.g. import permits) and sample shipping when needed.
8. Participation in occasional field sample collection trips may be possible.
