Project Overview:
We are looking for a highly skilled Freelance Field Service Mechanical Engineer with strong competencies in CAD design, mechanical and control systems, FEA simulations (ANSYS), and manufacturing processes. The engineer will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and upgrade of complex mechanical systems for industrial clients, as well as supporting detailed design and engineering tasks from both field and remote settings.
Key Responsibilities:
Field Service & Commissioning:
* Travel to client sites to perform installation, setup, alignment, and commissioning of mechanical systems and equipment.
* Troubleshoot mechanical, electrical, and control issues on-site and implement effective solutions.
* Liaise with controls and software teams to integrate systems including PLC-based automation.
* Provide technical support and on-site training for client technicians and operators.
* Conduct Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT).
* Ensure full compliance with safety and technical standards during field operations.
CAD & Mechanical Design:
* Use CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor) to create or revise 3D models and technical drawings.
* Prepare as-built drawings and update layouts based on field modifications.
* Collaborate with R&D/design teams to validate component fit, function, and assembly feasibility.
Control Systems Integration:
* Interpret control logic, P&IDs, and schematics to understand machine behavior.
* Work with PLC and automation teams to ensure mechanical/control system integration.
* Provide feedback on control strategy improvements based on field observations.
Simulation & Analysis:
* Perform FEA simulations in ANSYS to validate mechanical component strength, stress, and thermal behavior.
* Analyze system failures or fatigue data and propose design or material improvements.
* Run performance simulations to evaluate mechanical stability under load.
Manufacturing & Process Engineering:
* Support DFA/DFM (Design for Assembly / Manufacturing) reviews.
* Evaluate materials and processes for manufacturing efficiency and durability.
* Provide support in vendor coordination and oversee prototype or batch production.
Work Conditions:
* Availability for on-site work during peak installation/commissioning windows.
* Visa to work in Germany.
* Fluency in English
