## What to expect Do you want to contribute to sustainable energy solutions through innovative research? We are investigating a ceria-based thermochemical redox cycle to produce syngas, a tailored mixture of H₂ and CO that serves as a vital intermediate for sustainable fuels. The process employs concentrated solar radiation and advanced heat integration. To achieve maximum reduction levels, the receivers must absorb the incoming solar radiation evenly over the entire redox material, requiring sophisticated allocation and structuring within the receiver cavity. The optimization process involves balancing contradicting characteristics between different physical and chemical mechanisms. Your research will focus on developing tools for design and operational optimization, supported by experimental validation during the SUN-to-LIQUID II campaign. You will work on maximizing heat transfer between the heat transfer fluid and redox material while maintaining suitable cycle times and thermal load limits. ## Your tasks - Development of tools to optimize the design and operational parameters of the new receiver-reactor including the heat recovery unit - Validation of optimization tools using data from the SUN-to-LIQUID II experimental campaign - Optimization of receiver geometry and redox material allocation considering solar flux density Distribution - Development of parametrized sub-models for redox structures, receiver-reactor and heat recovery system - Implementation of high-fidelity modeling for radiative transport and heat exchange - Design and execution of stand-alone experiments for material and process characterization - Integration and coupling of different modeling approaches for system optimization ## Your profile - University degree (Master) in mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, physics or similar - Advanced knowledge of heat and mass transfer, thermodynamics, and reaction kinetics - Experience with numerical simulation of heat and mass transfer (e.g. Ansys, Openfoam) - Programming experience (e.g. Python, Modelica) - First experience in experimental work, including test planning and execution - Independent and structured way of working - Fluency in English (knowledge of German is a plus) Remuneration is up to the German TVöD EG 13 depending on qualifications and assigned tasks. ## We offer DLR stands for diversity, appreciation and equality for all people.
