Purpose
According to the requirements of the German Commercial Code (HGB) and German tax law, independently responsible for the company’s daily general ledger accounting, preparation of monthly and annual financial statements, and ensuring compliance and accuracy in tax and internal/external audits, providing reliable support for financial management and business decision-making.
Key Responsibilities
1. Daily General Ledger Accounting & HGB Compliance
* Manage daily general ledger entries, including accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed asset depreciation, and reconciliation of accounts receivable and payable.
* Ensure that all accounting transactions comply with the statutory requirements of the German Commercial Code (HGB).
2. Preparation of HGB Financial Statements
* Lead the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory financial statements under HGB (balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and notes).
* Ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of financial reporting.
3. Tax Compliance & Reporting Coordination
* Responsible for daily tax-related processing and compliance checks (e.g., VAT pre-audits).
* Coordinate with external tax advisors or directly complete monthly, quarterly, and annual tax filings (e.g., VAT pre-reports, corporate income tax filings).
* Ensure all financial processes comply with German tax laws.
4. Audit Coordination & Documentation Support
* Act as the main contact person for annual financial audits and tax inspections.
* Prepare and provide detailed accounts, contracts, vouchers, and explanations required for audits.
* Respond to audit inquiries and provide supporting documentation efficiently.
5. SAP System Maintenance & Process Optimization
* Responsible for daily operations and master data maintenance in the SAP FI module related to the general ledger.
* Continuously optimize the general ledger closing process and voucher processing efficiency.
* Ensure that system data accurately reflects business operations.
Qualifications & Requirements
1. Education
* Bachelor’s degree or above, preferably in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
2. Professional Certification & Experience
* Bilanzbuchhalter certification preferred.
* At least 3 years of experience in general ledger accounting (General Ledger Accounting) in German manufacturing or related industries.
* Proficient in HGB and German tax regulations.
3. Knowledge
* Deep knowledge of accounting principles, bookkeeping rules, and financial statement preparation under HGB.
* Familiarity with major German taxes (VAT, corporate income tax, trade tax) and their calculation rules.
* Understand the connection between HGB accounting treatments and tax law requirements.
4. Professional Skills
* Proficient in daily general ledger accounting under HGB, capable of independently handling accruals, prepaid expenses, depreciation, and account reconciliations, ensuring compliance with HGB regulations.
* Able to independently prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual statutory financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and notes) under HGB, with the ability to check report logic and analyze exceptions, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
* Familiar with German tax law (VAT, corporate income tax, trade tax) and capable of daily tax compliance checks, identifying and mitigating potential risks in HGB and tax law application.
* Experienced in independently coordinating annual audits and tax inspections, understanding audit requirements, organizing compliant documentation, and communicating issues related to HGB standards.
5. Language Skills
* German: proficient, capable of working in a German-speaking environment.
* English: fluent.
