We are seeking a motivated and seasoned Senior Control Engineer to join our dynamic team and spearhead the control engineering work of our groundbreaking wind-powered ship class. In this role, you will collaborate with a dynamic group of engineers, naval architects, and researchers to develop cutting-edge control systems for our wind-powered ship class.
Your tasks
* Lead the technological development of control engineering and mentor a team of control engineers.
* Generate detailed work plans, schedules, and budgets for project activities.
* Design control system architectures, including microcontrollers, sensors, and actuators.
* Model and simulate complex hydrofoil, ship and airborne wind energy system dynamics.
* Supervise the selection and implementation of suitable control algorithms.
* Develop reliable test and validation strategies.
* Set up and execute test activities on the test bench as well as on the prototype.
* Collaborate closely with a cross-functional team of engineers, designers, and researchers to develop a robust and reliable control system for ship stabilization and propulsion.
* Work closely with our CTO, providing updates on technical progress, achievements, and any potential roadblocks.
* Play a critical role in securing funding and partnerships by contributing to grant applications, proposals, and technical presentations.
Your profile
* Master’s degree or Ph.D. in electrical engineering, mechatronics, robotics, mechanical engineering or similar with specialization in control engineering.
* More than 7 years of professional experience in the field of control engineering with at least 2 years of experience in leading a team of juniors.
* Hands-on experience in implementing control systems on complex embedded systems.
* Proficiency in modelling and simulation software (e.g. Matlab, Simulink).
* Expertise in system identification, state estimation, sensor data fusion, controller gains tuning, and gain scheduling techniques.
* Knowledge in the area of flight system dynamics and fluid dynamics is a plus.
* Good knowledge of C/C++ or relevant hardware-related programming languages is a plus.
* Experience with the implementation of control algorithms on an FPGA/DSP is a plus.
* Experience in the maritime sector is a plus.
* Strong problem-solving skills and a hands-on, results-oriented approach.
* Motivated, independent, and reliable way of working.
* Passion for sustainability and environmental responsibility.
* Ability to adapt and thrive in a fast-paced startup environment.
* Fluency in English with excellent communication and interpersonal skills with Interest in interdisciplinary collaboration in a young and dedicated team.
* Proficient German skills are a plus.

About us
We are CargoKite, a Munich-based early-stage startup developing a new, wind-powered ship class for oversea transportation of freight. We are a spin-off from the Technical University of Munich and aim to decarbonize global shipping. With our high-tech sailing ship we help commercial shipping companies to reduce operating costs, cut emissions by 100% and enable a faster and more customizable shipping service. After recently closing our seed funding round with international top-tier investors from the US and Europe, we are now looking to grow our world-class crew!
