Main tasks
In the Medical Physics group of the Department of Radiotherapy and Radio-Oncology we are looking for a PhD candidate in the field of pre-clinical imaging and physics of ionizing radiation. The PhD studies will be conducted within the reearch project DEMOSTRAR, which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The aim of this project is the development of small-animal phantoms for image-guided pre-clinical radiotherapy, in close collaboration with the Institute of Product Development and Mechanical Engineering Design (PKT) of the Technical University Hamburg ().
Your tasks:
- Design and carry out experimental and computation studies
- Collect and analyse data, discuss and share results with research partners
- Publish and disseminate scientific results (publications in peer-reviewed journals, presentations at conferences and symposia)
- Participate in research and teaching activities of the UKE Medical Physics group
This position is to be filled with 65 % of the regual weekly working hours and temporary for three years in accordance with the WissZeitVG.
Your Profile
- Completed scientific studies (M.Sc. or equivalent degree) in Physics, Medical Physics, or related subjects
- Extended knowledge in the fields of radiation dosimetry and pre-clinical imaging
- Good knowledge of the Monte Carlo method for physical simulations of radiation and light transport
- Fluence in German and English (spoken and written)
- Knowledge of the finite-element method and appropriate software packages is desirable
- Independent and critical approach to research questions
- Communication skills, team spirit, deep interest in working in an interdisciplinary team
