About the role
Agile Robots AG is transforming advanced robotics research into reliable industrial solutions. Our Robot Group develops the full software stack for our robotic systems, from low-level system integration, real-time communication, Linux-based platform services, and hardware abstraction layers up to developer tooling and user-facing interfaces.
We are looking for a motivated Junior DevOps / Automation Engineer as a Working Student to join our Platform Team. In this role, you will support the development of internal automation, CI/CD workflows, monitoring services, tool integrations, and lightweight dashboards that help our engineering teams work more efficiently and reliably.
This role is intended for a student who wants to gain hands-on experience with real internal systems, not only theoretical coursework. You will work closely with experienced Platform and DevOps engineers and contribute to practical tools used by developers, testers, and platform teams.
Your Responsibilities
* Design, implement, and maintain automation scripts and small internal tools using Python, JavaScript/Node.js, Bash, or similar technologies
* Support and improve CI/CD workflows for building, testing, packaging, and deploying internal software components and tools
* Build webhook-based integrations between CI/CD systems, collaboration tools, monitoring systems, and internal services
* Develop lightweight backend services or web dashboards that collect, normalize, and present status information from internal systems, devices, or APIs
* Work with Linux-based environments, including command-line tools, file systems, processes, permissions, services, environment variables, logging, and basic troubleshooting
* Use Docker and containerized environments to package, run, and test internal services and tools
* Interact with REST APIs, handle JSON data, authentication tokens, webhooks, and event-driven workflows
* Contribute to observability and status monitoring by collecting system information and making it visible to engineers through dashboards or internal documentation platforms
* Document technical designs, operational procedures, decisions, and runbooks clearly for the team
* Collaborate closely with Platform, DevOps, software engineering, QA, and integration teams
* Learn and apply production-minded engineering practices around reliability, maintainability, automation, and clear ownership
Essential Skills
* Current enrollment as a student in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Robotics, or a related technical field, with eligibility to work as a Werkstudent in Germany
* Basic but practical understanding of Linux, including command-line usage, file systems, processes, permissions, and shell commands
* Practical experience with Git and basic conflict resolution
* PA reliable working style, clear communication, and the ability to ask questions early when requirements or technical details are unclear. programming or scripting experience in at least one of the following: Python, JavaScript/Node.js, Bash, or a comparable language
* Basic understanding of HTTP and REST APIs, including requests, responses, JSON, status codes, and simple authentication mechanisms such as tokens or API keys
* Familiarity with containers, especially Docker concepts such as images, containers, ports, volumes, and environment variables
* Some exposure to CI/CD systems such as GitLab CI, Jenkins, GitHub Actions, or similar tools through university projects, personal projects, internships, open source, or lab work
* Ability to write clear documentation in English for technical users
* Curiosity, willingness to learn, and motivation to work on real engineering problems in a production-minded environment
Beneficial Skills
* Experience with webhooks, event-driven integrations, or automation between development tools
* Familiarity with backend frameworks (FastAPI, Flask, Express) and basic frontend skills (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
* Basic knowledge of Linux system administration, services (systemd, Nginx), and messaging/pub-sub systems (MQTT, etc.)
* Experience with documentation platforms, testing frameworks, and monitoring/observability tools (Prometheus, Grafana, pytest, Jest)
