Freelance AI & Object Detection Specialist – Germany – 18+ Month Contract
We are supporting a cutting-edge defence technology organisation in Germany on the next phase of their AI-enabled object detection and recognition systems. To strengthen the team, we’re seeking a Freelance AI & Machine Learning Expert with experience in computer vision, sensor fusion, and defence-grade AI solutions. This role is available immediately.
Key Responsibilities
* Contribute to the design and development of advanced AI/ML algorithms for object detection, tracking, and recognition
* Develop and integrate multi-sensor fusion pipelines (EO/IR, radar, LiDAR, etc.)
* Optimise and deploy models for real-time inference in operational defence environments, including airborne and drone-based platforms
* Containerize and orchestrate AI services with Docker and Kubernetes
* Collaborate with cross-functional teams on system integration, testing, and validation against defence/aerospace standards
* Maintain high standards of code quality, testing, and deployment automation
Requirements & Useful Skills
* Proven experience as an AI/ML Engineer or Computer Vision Specialist, ideally with a defence or aerospace background
* Strong programming skills in Python (C++ experience in high-performance or embedded contexts is a plus)
* Expertise in modern ML frameworks (TensorFlow, PyTorch, ONNX) and computer vision libraries (OpenCV, DeepStream)
* Experience with multi-sensor fusion, object detection, and real-time data processing
* Familiarity with drones, UAV platforms, or aerospace/defence standards (e.g., DO-178C, NATO STANAGs)
* Proficiency with Docker and Kubernetes in production/secure environments
* Strong communication skills in English (German is advantageous)
* Eligibility to obtain German/EU Security Clearance (must be EU citizen or permanent resident)

* Location: Germany (Hybrid working, on-site collaboration required)
* Contract: 18 months
* Start: Immediately
* Hours: Full-time (~40 hours/week)
* Eligibility: Must be able to obtain German Security Clearance and have Right to Work in Europe
