MODU Energy: Redefining Industrial Energy Through Intelligent Modularity
MODU Energy is on a mission to redefine industrial energy systems for the modern era. Industrial sites rely on outdated, inefficient energy solutions that are unable to scale or adapt to dynamic demands. We aim to disrupt this trillion-dollar market with the MODU energy stack: an AI-powered modular framework that enables businesses to unlock efficiencies, reduce costs, and transform profitability.
We are building scalable, "plug-and-play" hardware solutions that seamlessly integrate generation, storage, and control systems into any industrial site. With flexible Energy-as-a-Service (EaaS) pricing, we are bridging the gap between cutting-edge innovation and accessibility for cost-conscious industries.
YOUR ROLE
As Chief Technology Officer, you’ll lead the development of groundbreaking intellectual property, oversee the strategic evolution of our AI-powered modular framework, and shape the long-term technological roadmap for scaling our Microgrid & BESS platform.
Responsibilities
* Technical Strategy: Define and own the long-term technical vision for MODU Energy’s modular technologies, driving innovation in distributed energy systems, AI-powered EMS software, and modular hardware frameworks.
* Technology Leadership: Act as the company’s technical thought leader, leveraging cutting-edge research, patents, and advanced methods to deliver competitive differentiation in both hardware and software.
* Intellectual Property Development: Identify opportunities to create proprietary technologies, design novel algorithms, and drive patent applications to build long-term defensibility.
* Energy Management Systems (EMS): Lead the development of AI-based software platforms that optimize energy storage, grid integration, and peak load management.
* Technical Oversight: Manage all aspects of technology development, including high-level architectural decisions, R&D efforts, and hardware/software integration.
* Hands-on Collaboration: Step into prototyping and technical problem-solving when needed to support product development teams effectively.
Qualifications
Must-Have Skills
* Educational Background: PhD or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy Systems, Artificial Intelligence applied to energy, or related fields.
* Energy System Knowledge: Deep understanding of energy storage systems (batteries, solar PV), distributed energy resources (DERs), microgrid design, and grid integration.
* Technical Leadership: 5+ years in technical leadership roles, ideally in deep-tech startups, R&D labs, or energy innovation firms.
* Research and Development: Proven ability to drive research and innovation—not limited to academia—and experience creating actionable insights within technical or corporate settings.
* Cross-Functional Product Leadership: Demonstrated experience leading the development and integration of software-based control systems alongside hardware solutions.
Nice-to-Have Skills
* Previous experience establishing IP portfolios, including patents and trade secrets.
* Familiarity with hardware prototyping and modular systems (e.g., containerized systems, plug-and-play units).
* Experience contributing to early-stage startups or working in high-growth environments.
* Experience presenting technical visions to investors and stakeholders.
