We are excited to offer an opportunity for a Principal Consultant – Underground Operations to join our team and support underground mining operations globally.About This Role:This role is designed for a senior underground mining engineer who thrives at the intersection of engineering analysis and operational improvement. You will work directly with mine operations teams to diagnose operational challenges, analyze production and system data, and implement practical solutions that improve execution and productivity. The role requires strong underground mining expertise, familiarity with modern mining technologies, and the ability to translate technical insights into improvements that frontline teams can execute. Unlike traditional engineering roles focused solely on planning or design, this position emphasizes operational performance, system optimization, and hands-on collaboration with site teams. You will contribute to consulting engagements across multiple operations, supporting operational improvement initiatives, technology optimization efforts, and operational performance programs.Key Responsibilities:Operational Assessment and Analysis:Conduct operational assessments to identify production constraints, operational inefficiencies, and opportunities for improvement.Analyze production and operational data to identify performance trends and improvement opportunities.Evaluate planning and scheduling processes to strengthen execution and compliance to plan.Technology and Systems Optimization:Support the effective use and optimization of underground mining technologies, including Fleet Management Systems (FMS), dispatch systems, and operational monitoring tools.Validate system configurations and reporting structures to ensure data accuracy and operational visibility.Assist sites in aligning technology usage with operational processes and decision making.Project Delivery:Support the planning, coordination, and execution of consulting engagements and operational improvement projects.Contribute to project planning, scheduling, and deliverable management across client engagements.Work collaboratively with internal project teams and client stakeholders to ensure successful project delivery.Operational Engagement:Work directly with engineers, supervisors, dispatchers, and operations leadership to support the implementation of improvement initiatives.Facilitate workshops, coaching sessions, and knowledge transfer activities with site teams.Reporting and Communication:Prepare clear, data-driven reports and presentations summarizing findings, recommendations, and results.Communicate technical insights effectively to both operational teams and management stakeholders.Build strong relationships with client teams through collaboration, credibility, and practical problem solving.Client Delivery Focus:Ensure recommendations are practical, actionable, and aligned with client production objectives.Support clients in translating analytical insights into operational improvements.Build trusted relationships with client teams through transparent communication and credible technical guidance.Required Skills and Qualifications:Bachelor’s degree in Mining Engineering or a related discipline.Candidates with operational experience in lieu of a degree may be considered.15-20 years of experience in underground mining operations, mine engineering, or operational improvement roles.Additional experience with Open Pit Mining is preferred.Demonstrated experience working with underground mining technologies and operational systems.Strong understanding of underground mine planning, production processes, and operational performance management.Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to collaborate across all levels of the organization.Why Work for Outliers?Outliers Mining Solutions offers a unique environment where experienced mining professionals collaborate to drive real operational improvements across the industry.
