The Role
We are looking for a Flight Dynamics Modelling Engineer to own the integrated 6DOF simulation of the aircraft. You will integrate the aerodynamic model (delivered by the Flight Mechanics team) with propulsion, mass properties, landing gear, actuators, sensors, environment and failure modes, and deliver the simulation platform that flight controls, handling qualities, loads, performance, AI/autonomy and flight test all rely on.
This role suits engineers who care as much about V&V rigour, real-time performance and configuration control as about flight dynamics theory. Backgrounds in simulation development, simulator qualification, flight dynamics R&D or model-based systems engineering are all welcome.
Key Responsibilities
* Develop, implement and maintain the integrated high-fidelity 6DOF flight dynamics model of the aircraft (equations of motion, propulsion, mass and inertia, landing gear, actuators, sensors, environment, atmospheric and turbulence models).
* Integrate the validated aerodynamic database from the Flight Mechanics team into the simulation; ensure consistent interfaces, units, sign conventions and configuration management between teams.
* Build and maintain desktop, batch, real-time (SIL/HIL) and pilot-in-the-loop simulation environments; ensure numerical robustness, real-time performance, determinism and reproducibility.
* Develop and maintain trim, linearisation and analysis tools used by flight controls, handling qualities, loads, performance and AI/autonomy teams.
* Run model V&V campaigns at integrated level: define acceptance criteria, document fidelity, limitations and applicability, and manage versioned model releases.
* Support simulator qualification activities and the generation of evidence for flight clearance.
* Prepare technical artefacts for certification and qualification: model description documents, V&V reports, requirement traceability and supporting evidence.
Experience & Qualifications
* MSc (or equivalent) in Aerospace, Aeronautical, Mechanical or related Engineering discipline.
* 5+ years of professional experience in flight dynamics modelling, simulation development or model-based engineering for fixed-wing aircraft.
* Strong theoretical foundation in flight mechanics, aircraft equations of motion, and 6DOF simulation.
* Proven experience integrating, maintaining and validating 6DOF aircraft simulation models, including propulsion, landing gear, actuators, sensors and environment models.
* Experience with desktop, real-time, HIL/SIL and pilot-in-the-loop simulation environments.
* Strong programming skills in Python and MATLAB/Simulink; experience with C/C++ in real-time simulation frameworks is highly desirable.
* Familiarity with model V&V, configuration management and simulator qualification (CS-23/CS-25 or military equivalents).
* Excellent English communication and presentation skills for engaging with technical teams and certification authorities.
* Experience with military aircraft programmes, autocoding (Embedded Coder, TargetLink) or AI/autonomy in-the-loop simulation is a plus.
