The “Legal Services Germany, Austria, Switzerland” department advises and supports all business units as well as various central Group and GBS functions on a wide range of legal issues in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as well as on global cross-functional topics.
The Real Estate Law team advises on all real estate law matters, e.g., on the purchase and sale of land, commercial tenancy law, regulatory and contractual support for construction projects, and the drafting of specialist engineering and architectural contracts. In addition, the team provides legal support throughout all project phases of the Group’s real estate development activities both in Germany and other European countries.

Key Responsibilities:
Subject Matter Law Senior Specialist (m/f/d)
Holistic legal advice to Corporate Real Estate (CRE) on real estate law matters, particularly regarding land purchase and sale, commercial tenancy law, legal support for construction projects, and managing all relevant legal matters for DHL Supply Chain (DSC) Real Estate Solutions (RES).
* Management of CRE’s legal matters in complex and economically significant real estate law issues, especially in land, tenancy, and construction law
o Legal analysis and assessment of planned measures in the real estate sector and preparation of legal opinions and recommendations
o Drafting, reviewing, and assessing purchase, construction, and lease agreements as well as framework agreements and other relevant contracts in German and English
o Development of globally applicable legal standards, including purchase, lease, and tenancy agreements, as well as template contracts (e.g., architectural agreements, brokerage contracts)
o Advising on legal disputes with significant economic impact
+ Analysis of contract conditions and derivation of recommendations
+ Conducting settlement negotiations with service providers, including risk assessment, development of recommendations, and final alignment with internal stakeholders
+ Management of and collaboration with external law firms (e.g., in court proceedings), including preparation of all necessary (court) documentation
o Ensuring compliance with applicable legal regulations and internal guidelines
o Close cooperation with internal stakeholders (CRE DACH, divisional contacts, Legal DACH, Tax, Finance) and external service providers (construction companies, planning offices, authorities, etc.)
o Preparation and delivery of internal trainings for CRE employees on current topics in real estate and contract law
* Responsibility for all legal matters of the DSC RES organizational unit in Germany and coordination of RES-related legal issues in EU jurisdictions (i.e., real estate development business: marketing of existing or to-be-built warehouse space to large industrial investors in Germany and abroad)
o Legal advice on RES matters from initial business development to contract conclusion
o Preparation of legal opinions, recommendations, and Business Case Analysis (BCA) statements
o Review and assessment of contractual documents
o Identification of legal risks and development of suitable mitigation strategies
o Monitoring and coordination of RES-related issues in European countries
+ Selection of suitable external law firms on-site
+ Collaboration with and management of external legal advisors
* Preparation and delivery of internal trainings for CRE employees on current topics in real estate and general contract law
* Participation in the establishment and coordination of an international CRE Practice Group within Legal Services as well as the development and implementation of global standards
o Alignment of legal topics across jurisdictions and organizational units
o Identification and networking of international stakeholders to establish unified standards
o Support in developing and implementing global standards aligned with internal needs and external requirements
* Monitoring developments in construction and real estate law as well as related legal areas
o Interpretation of impacts and requirements arising from new regulations
o Derivation, alignment, and implementation of recommendations (e.g., adjustments to standard contracts)
o Communication with and consultation of relevant stakeholders and affected departments
Professional Qualifications:
* Completed law degree (2nd State Examination), ideally with a focus on real estate law and/or relevant specialist lawyer training, or comparable qualification
* Many years of relevant professional experience in real estate law, gained in a corporate legal department or a specialized law firm
* Experience advising on real estate law issues and projects, ideally with a focus on commercial construction law, land law, and tenancy law
* Experience preparing legal opinions, assessments, and contracts in German and English
* Experience in managing external service providers and law firms
* Excellent German and English language skills
