We are seeking a dynamic Lead Architect - Thermal Management System (TMS) to join our R&D team. As the Lead Architect for Thermal Management Systems at ELU (Electrification Unit of Yanmar), you will lead the architecture, design, and optimization of thermal systems for electric powertrains. Your role will focus on ensuring efficient thermal performance for batteries, e-motors and power electronics across various off-highway applications. You will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop advanced cooling strategies and integrate thermal management solutions into electrification platforms. Your leadership will play a key role in advancing Yanmar’s electrification initiatives by delivering robust and efficient thermal management technologies for off-highway machinery. Your key responsibilities System Architecture & Design : Lead the architecture and design of thermal management systems for electric powertrains. Define system requirements, specifications, and technical roadmaps. System Integration : Ensure seamless integration of thermal management systems with batteries, e-motors, power electronics and vehicle systems. Thermal Strategy Development : the complete lifecycle of battery systems, from concept through design, validation, and production. Lead : Develop innovative thermal strategies to optimize performance, efficiency and durability of electrified powertrains. Simulation & Modelling : Oversee thermal simulations and system modelling activities using CFD and other engineering tools. Testing & Validation : Define and oversee validation and testing procedures to verify thermal performance and system reliability. Cross-functional Collaboration : Work closely with engineering, R&D, product management and manufacturing teams to integrate thermal solutions into product platforms. Innovation & Optimization : Identify and evaluate new cooling technologies and methodologies to enhance thermal performance and system efficiency. Leadership and Mentorship : Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineering teams and support the development of best practices in thermal system design. Requirements & Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Thermal Engineering, or a related field (Master’s degree preferred). At least 8 years of experience in thermal management systems, preferably within electrified powertrains, automotive, or off-highway applications. Strong expertise in cooling technologies, heat transfer, and thermal system architecture. Experience with thermal simulation tools (CFD, system modelling). Good understanding of the integration of batteries, power electronics and electric motors within electric powertrains. Experience working in cross-functional engineering environments. Strong communication and leadership skills. Proficient oral and written communication in English (Japanese/German is a plus). Innovative mindset with a focus on performance, efficiency and sustainability. Willingness to travel.
