Research Assistant (PhD candidate) (m/f/d) with the focus on "Digital Twin development for industrial sucrose crystallization"
15.09., Wissenschaftliches Personal
The Chair of Systems Process Engineering at the Technical University of Munich (Weihenstephan site, Freising) is looking for a research assistant (m/f/d) with the focus on "Digital Twin development for industrial sucrose crystallization
Project
Join an exciting research initiative at the forefront of Industry 4.0 and process systems engineering. The project focuses on developing a digital twin for multistage crystallization processes used in industrial sucrose production. The goal is to create suite of first-principle and reduced-order models that enable predictive simulations, real-time control, and process optimization. You will work on the development of deterministic population balance models, conduct single-crystal and batch crystallization experiments, and apply modern machine learning approaches yielding hybrid and reduced order models to enable real-time applications. In collaborating with industrial partners you will integrate real-world data and implement models in industrial simulation tools like gPROMS. This project offers a unique opportunity to bridge fundamental research and industrial application, contributing to more efficient and sustainable sugar production.
Your profile
Suitable applicants should have excellent communication skills and should be able to work both independently and in a collaborative, interdisciplinary. A prerequisite for employment is a master's degree with above-average grades in Process Engineering/Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Applied Physics, Food Technology, or a related relevant field. A strong background in process modeling, numerical methods, and process engineering fundamentals is desired. Previous experience in crystallization and/or the use of advanced model-ing/simulation tools such as Matlab or gPROMS is an advantage.
Our offer
The vacancy is to be filled as soon as possible on a fixed-term employment contract. The position is suited for pursuing a PhD. We offer you a diversified, scientific workplace with personal responsibility and creative freedom. Payment is according to qualification and follows TV-L (German Collective Agreement for Public Services). In the case of comparable suitability, aptitude and professional achievements, candidates with severe disability will be given preference. Applications from women are particularly welcome.
