As Technical Procurement Manager BESS, you will play a key role in securing competitive and reliable solutions for SMA Altenso’s energy storage projects. You will manage supplier relationships, drive sourcing strategies, and ensure that procurement decisions align with technical requirements, project timelines, and commercial targets. By bridging Engineering, Project Management, and Supply Chain, you will enable efficient project execution while building sustainable partnerships with suppliers to strengthen SMA Altenso’s long-term competitiveness.
What a typical day looks like
1. Negotiation: Negotiate purchasing agreements and manage supplier contracts to ensure competitive, compliant, and reliable terms
2. Analysis: Conduct cost-benefit-risk evaluations and benchmark internal costs to support strategic decision-making and maintain cost competitiveness
3. Evaluation: Perform supplier and market analyses to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, and audit suppliers using transparent evaluation criteria
4. Strategy: Define and implement a strategic purchasing approach for battery storage systems, including maintaining a market outlook on BESS components and technologies
5. Development: Develop and manage a preferred supplier base while tracking emerging storage technologies and ensuring alignment with regulations and standards
Your Skills
6. Expertise: Strong technical and commercial knowledge in Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS), with proven procurement and supplier management experience
7. Insight: Deep understanding of supplier markets and emerging energy storage technologies, with the ability to analyze costs, assess risks, and support transparent decisions
8. Collaboration: Structured, proactive, and team-oriented working style paired with excellent communication skills
9. Qualification: Master’s degree in engineering, business, or economics; fluent in English and Chinese, with German and other languages as a plus
10. Mobility: Willingness to travel internationally (~20%) to support global operations and supplier engagement
