Larimar Therapeutics Inc. (Larimar) is a publicly held clinical‑stage biotechnology company focused on developing treatments for patients suffering from complex rare diseases using its novel cell penetrating peptide technology platform. Our lead product candidate, Nomlabofusp (formerly referred to as CTI-1601), is a subcutaneously administered, recombinant fusion protein intended to deliver human frataxin (FXN), an essential protein to the mitochondria of patients with Friedreich’s ataxia. Friedreich’s ataxia is a rare, progressive, and fatal disease in which patients are unable to produce sufficient FXN due to a genetic abnormality.

The company has assembled an experienced management team, each of whom has over 20 years of pharmaceutical industry experience and has over 50 employees. Their management team, employees, and consultants have significant expertise in discovery, nonclinical and clinical development, regulatory affairs, and the development of manufacturing processes utilizing good manufacturing practices.

The company’s strategy is to become a leader in the treatment of rare diseases by leveraging its technology platform and applying its team’s know‑how to the development of nomlabofusp and other future pipeline projects. We are best characterized by entrepreneurial and scientific leadership and a participatory workforce committed to success.

This position is field based with approximately 50% travel.


Position Overview

The Sr. Medical Science Liaison (MSL) is part of the field‑based medical affairs teams that plays an important role establishing, cultivating, and maintaining relationships with strategic external stakeholders, specifically key opinion leaders (KOLs) and healthcare professionals (HCPs) in relevant therapeutic areas. The primary responsibilities of the Larimar MSLs will be to provide high quality two‑way medical and scientific communication, delivering nonclinical, medical, and pharmacoeconomic information that is consistent and aligns with published and proprietary knowledge of therapeutic areas of interest and Larimar products that are marketed or under development. MSLs will be expected to leverage his or her medical and scientific background, industry knowledge, and business acumen to engage in appropriate, fair and balanced communication with KOLs and HCPs. In addition, MSLs will also provide support for research initiatives, medical education, presentations and publications, congresses, meetings, advisory boards, and other Medical Affairs activities. MSLs may also, from time to time, serve as a subject matter expert for internal stakeholders if appropriate. While MSLs will be expected to operate independently in the field, the execution of day‑to‑day duties will be an extension of the MSL team, the Medical Affairs function, and the Larimar organization. Larimar MSLs must fit well within Larimar’s culture of excellence, collaboration, and respect, and conduct themselves professionally in a manner that is compliant with law, regulation, and Larimar’s internal policies.

In addition to these responsibilities, the Sr. MSL will serve as the “captain” of the Larimar MSL team. The Sr. MSL will leverage his or her experience and leadership and organizational skills to ensure that the individuals within the MSL team operate in a manner that is coordinated and consistent with the MSL team, Medical Affairs, and Larimar goals and objectives. Accordingly, the Sr. MSL will also, in collaboration with the S. Director, Medical Affairs, oversee the training, maintenance, and evaluation of the performance of the MSL team. The Sr. MSL will work closely with Medical Affairs leadership to develop and collaborate with other cross‑functional teams to ensure that Larimar maintains a strong clinical and scientific presence in the field. The role will report to the Sr. Director, Medical Affairs.


Key Responsibilities

* In collaboration with the Sr. Director, Medical Affairs, establish the goals, objectives, and metrics applicable to the MSL team
* Oversee recruitment, training, and deployment of MSL team in line with Larimar objectives
* Serve as the leader of the MSL team, providing primary day‑to‑day guidance and direction as needed, as well as the representative of the MSL team to the Larimar organization
* Accountable for travel and expense reports, monthly team highlights, and inputs for year‑end reviews
* Participate in and contribute to strategic and tactical discussions regarding Medical Affairs activities
* Identify relevant thought leaders, professional groups, organizations, decision‑makers and other key external stakeholders
* Engage in scientific exchange with identified key stakeholders
* Support utilization of tools utilized for key insights, monthly updates, and outcomes driven goals
* Share and discuss evidence‑based scientific data with stakeholders in accordance with all relevant regulatory requirements and company compliance guidance
* Capture and report scientific insights obtained via appropriate scientific interactions
* Respond to unsolicited questions regarding pipeline products and Larimar clinical studies and document these requests and responses through appropriate process
* Facilitate education on disease state, product and landscape to internal & external stakeholders as appropriate
* Facilitate research initiatives at the direction of Medical Affairs leadership
* Lead departmental projects at the direction of Medical Affairs leadership
* Represent Medical Affairs at scientific meetings and conferences
* Contribute to the development of scientific materials
* Work with Medical Affairs leadership to develop and execute the field team strategic plan


Requirements


Qualifications

* Advanced degree in a relevant clinical/scientific discipline
* 5+ years MSL experience in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industries, with additional experience in leadership/mentoring roles
* Experience working in a clinical or scientific role within the pharmaceutical, healthcare, or medical research industries
* Experience in leading, mentoring, and onboarding direct reports
* Thorough understanding of pharmaceutical industry compliance, preferably experience in supporting cross‑functional teams.
* Experience using Microsoft Office programs (PowerPoint, Word, Excel, and Outlook)
* Self‑starter who can work effectively within teams
* Ability to effectively present scientific information to diverse audiences
* Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills with ability to communicate to a wide variety of audiences
* Comfortable operating independently and managing unique, unusual, and ambiguous situations by using good judgment and sound decision‑making
