The Structural Biochemistry group investigates the structure-function relationship of proteins, especially bacterial virulence factors and enzymes. The central method for structure determination is X-ray crystallography. We are looking for a person who is enthusiastic about the molecular function of proteins and is eager to work on a research project in this field. Current topics are the type III secretion system of the human pathogenic bacterium Yersinia enterocolitica and flavin-dependent halogenases as potential biocatalysts for sustainable syntheses in Chemistry. Your Tasks
1. Participation in research projects on the structure and molecular function of proteins (60%) recombinant protein expression (incl. cloning) protein purification and crystallisation X-ray diffraction experiments, data analysis, structure determination functional analyses ( binding assays, enzyme assays, spectroscopy, etc.) documentation and publication
2. Teaching tasks in the supervision of practical courses and tutorials in Biochemistry and Chemistry, 2 LVS (25 %)
3. Organisational tasks in the research group (15%)

Your Profile We expect
14. completed scientific university degree (M. Sc. or equivalent) in biochemistry or a related natural science subject
15. sound knowledge of Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysical Chemistry
16. practical experience with molecular biology methods and recombinant protein expression
17. practical experience with protein purification (also using FPLC)
18. independent, diligent and committed working style
19. very good knowledge of written and spoken English or German
20. definite intention to pursue a PhD
Preferred experience and skills
21. knowledge in the field of protein structure determination
22. practical experience with protein crystallisation and X-ray structure analysis
23. practical experience with biophysical methods (e. g. DSF, MST, BLI, ITC, CD, SPR, etc.)
24. practical experience with the investigation of protein-protein interactions
25. practical experience with HPLC analysis
26. very good knowledge of written and spoken English
