The Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences of the University of Passau invites applications for the tenured civil-service post of
Chair of Developmental and Health Psychology (pay grade W3)
* to start on 1 October 2026.
Applicants should have a proven track record in research on developmental and health psychology with a focus on school-related topics.
Developmental and health psychology findings and methods will be used to research and help overcome key challenges in schools. Examples include topics such as learning and developmental disorders (dyslexia, dyscalculia, ADHD), but also stress management and prevention, or the conscious use of digital media. Your research should focus on investigations into the impact and effectiveness of psychological support measures.
One focus of the instructional tasks is the teaching of the psychological foundations of school and teaching in German in accordance with the Bavarian LPO I (Educational Science Studies, Psychology in the areas of the subject-specific admission requirements and the content-related examination requirements specified in § 32 LPO I). Competencies for the training of teachers must be demonstrated. In addition, the professorship is required to participate in other programmes offered by the Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences. Furthermore, interdisciplinary cooperation with other faculties and institutes of the University of Passau is expected, in particular with the newly founded Institute of Health Sciences.

Publications in international peer-reviewed journals as well as experience in the successful acquisition of third-party funding are also required.

The Faculty of Social and Educational Sciences is home to teacher education programmes for all school types as well as a wide range of interdisciplinary bachelorâs and masterâs programmes. These programmes are known for their outstanding academic quality and are delivered using an array of innovative teaching methods at both the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The research areas within the faculty are also characterised by a diverse range of content and methodological approaches.
The successful candidate will be educated to doctoral level in the area of psychology and have demonstrated both pedagogical aptitude and academic excellence, whereby the latter is generally established on the basis of the quality of his or her doctoral research and subsequent academic achievements. He or she will, furthermore, possess the German formal postdoctoral habilitation qualification or an equivalent body of academic achievements garnered whilst employed at an institution of higher education, for instance as a juniorprofessor or in a comparable position with a different title (e.g. assistant professor or lecturer), insofar as the duties and qualification profile correspond to those of a juniorprofessor position, or by leading a junior research group under the conditions specified in Art.sentence 5 of the Bavarian Higher Education Innovation Act (BayHIG); the habilitation-equivalent achievements may also have been attained outside the higher education system. In accordance with Art.sentence 1 BayHIG, candidates must not be more than 52 years of age at the time of their appointment.
