Become part of our Constructor Community in the north of Bremen as a Research Associate (m/f/d) Marine Trace Element Geochemistry (Full-time 38,5 hours/week, limited for 3 years) About the framework: In 2021, two tests on the mining of polymetallic nodules were carried out in the Clarion Clipperton Zone in the Pacific Ocean. As part of the European research project MiningImpact3, the impacts of these mining tests on trace element geochemical processes in surface sediments and near-bottom seawater up to 6 years after the disturbance will be investigated, complemented with studies on the bioavailability of trace metals during mining activities and an evaluation of suitable indicators for ecotoxicological risks. The work to be carried out will be spatially divided between the Constructor University in Bremen (marine geochemistry working group) and the Federal Institute for Geosciences and Natural Resources in Hannover (marine geology and resource exploration working group), whereby the recruitment will take place at the Constructor University. Your tasks: Integrated evaluation of existing biogeochemical and trace element geochemical data of marine sediments and seawater Peer-review publication of the results Conducting trace element analyses using SeaFAST, ICP-MS, ICP-OES and voltammetry Geochemical-analytical monitoring of ecotoxicological experiments and data evaluation (in cooperation with biologists) Participation in at least one ship expedition lasting several weeks Your profile: Completed university degree (Master or PhD) in (marine) geosciences or similar, focus on geochemistry Knowledge and experience in the analytical processing of marine sediments and/or seawater for the determination of trace elements High level of proficiency in English Willingness to participate in ship expeditions lasting several weeks Willingness to carry out laboratory work in Bremen and Hanover Interest in interdisciplinary cooperation Ideally peer-reviewed publications Ideally ship experience What you can expect at Constructor University: Constructor University unequivocally guarantees the academic freedom of every member of the faculty, as well as every other member of the Constructor University community.
