System Application Engineer – Battery Energy Storage Systems | Germany
I’m supporting a fast-growing battery technology business that is expanding its Battery Energy Storage Systems division and looking for a System Application Engineer – BESS.
This is a key technical role for someone who understands the interface between BESS projects, grid connection requirements, and medium-voltage infrastructure. The business is looking for someone who can support projects from the quotation and concept phase through to delivery, permitting, grid connection and on-site coordination.
The role will involve:
* Supporting technical evaluation and system design during the quotation/RFQ phase
* Analysing customer requirements and developing BESS system concepts
* Working across DC battery containers, PCS/bidirectional inverters, MV transformers and MV switchgear
* Supporting grid connection applications and technical documentation with grid operators
* Preparing/reviewing single-line diagrams, primary/secondary circuit diagrams and protection concepts
* Coordinating suppliers, technical partners and project stakeholders during project delivery
* Supporting technical due diligence of battery cells, PCS systems and suppliers
* Working closely with sales, project management, engineering and operations teams
Key requirements:
* 3+ years experience in electrical engineering, energy technology or a similar technical discipline
* Strong understanding of grid connection requirements, ideally including VDE-AR-N 4110, 4120, 4130, TAB and grid-code requirements
* Experience with BESS, renewable energy, grid infrastructure, PV, wind, utilities, DSOs/TSOs, MV systems, transformers, switchgear or high-power inverters
* Ability to work independently in a dynamic, growing business unit
* Fluent German (C1+) and English
* Willingness to travel, approximately 50%, mainly within Germany initially
* Category B driving licence
