The Position As a Group Head in the field of New Biological Entities (NBEs) you lead, shape and manage a team of patent specialists and patent attorneys to support successful execution of Boehringeru2019s biologics patent strategy in the stages of R&D until Release of Full Development. You actively contribute to, implement and execute global patent strategies to drive and ensure worldwide patent exclusivity for the respective Boehringer development projects and products and safeguard Boehringeru2019s know-how and freedom to operate for research, development, production and later commercialization, thereby contributing to Boehringeru2019s global innovation and business strategy. This position can be filled in Ingelheim or Biberach. This position has a hybrid setup with approximately 2-3 days per week on-site and is part time eligible with min. 70 %. Tasks & responsibilities One of your key tasks / responsibilities will be building of valuable and defendable patent portfolios in the field of NBEs. Regarding this, you will lead and manage a team of patent attorneys and patent specialists to achieve this main goal and will take over responsibility for projects globally. In your new role you will be a key advisor to the global research and development functions at Boehringer in Germany, the US and Austria for whom you will develop, implement and maintain advanced patent strategies. Additionally, you will be one of the main contact persons for given therapeutical areas for all disciplines along the value chain (biochemistry, biology, drug delivery, legal, marketing/business, medicine, production, development, purchasing, other BI patent functions in countries of main markets) as it relates to project activities until the stage of Release of Full Development. Moreover, you will secure Boehringeru2019s interest in contractual matters by providing and negotiating IP right concepts and drafting IP right provisions in respective licensing and collaboration projects. In addition, you will support investment decisions by evaluation and counselling of in- and out-licensing projects, acquisitions and divestments, collaborations and investment opportunities, and other transactions in close collaboration with legal, licensing and other relevant key function in your area of responsibility. Requirements University degree (PhD, MA, or diploma) in life sciences (Biology, Biochemistry or Biotechnology) and admission as a patent attorney/agent at a major patent office (e.g., EPO or a national patent office) Long-term experience in patent practice, gained in various roles or functions in-house or in private practice Strong knowledge of international patent law, civil and contractual law, and a basic understanding of regulatory law Proven leadership skills, ideally with several years of experience leading a local or cross-functional team A solid understanding of the interface of patent law and commercial business aspects Cross-cultural understanding and the ability to work in a cross-country matrix organization Excellent communication and English language skills Ready to contact us?
