Job Description:
METLEN Energy & Metals is launching and expanding its M Renewables Division in Germany, and we are seeking an experienced Health, Safety & Environmental (HSE) Manager to support the safe delivery of our utility-scale Solar PV and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) projects.
This is a senior departmental role with responsibility for leading and managing all HSE activities across project development, construction, commissioning, and early operations. The HSE Manager will play a critical role in ensuring full compliance with German legislation, EU directives, and industry best practices, while embedding a strong and proactive safety culture across projects, contractors, and internal teams.
The role will work closely with Project Directors, Project Managers, the Regional HSE Director, and external stakeholders, and will also support HSE compliance within METLEN's Berlin office.
Your Role Will Encompass:
* Lead and manage all HSE activities across Solar PV and BESS projects from development through construction, commissioning, and early operations.
* Ensure full compliance with German statutory requirements, EU directives, client standards, and METLEN HSE policies.
* Act as the primary HSE interface with project teams, subcontractors, clients, and local authorities.
* Provide HSE leadership during pre-construction planning, including risk identification, design risk assessments, and HSE documentation.
* Oversee site HSE management, audits, inspections, and monitoring during construction and commissioning phases.
* Lead incident and accident investigations, root cause analysis, and corrective actions.
* Ensure safe systems of work, RAMS approval, and contractor HSE compliance across all project phases.
* Support HSE governance, reporting, and continuous improvement across projects and operations.
* Provide oversight and support for HSE compliance within the Berlin office environment.
What We're Looking For:
* Recognised HSE qualification (Sicherheitsfachkraft - Sifa mandatory); NEBOSH Diploma strongly preferred.
* Degree or technical qualification in Engineering, or equivalent recognised professional qualification.
* 5-7+ years' experience in HSE management within large-scale construction or renewable energy projects (EPC environment).
* Strong knowledge of German HSE legislation, including ASiG, DGUV regulations, BaustellV, and construction law.
* Experience working on utility-scale Solar PV and/or BESS projects is highly desirable.
* ISO 14001 / ISO 45001 auditor qualification is an advantage.
* Native or professional-level German (B2-C1) and fluent English (mandatory).
* Strong communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills.
* Willingness to travel nationally across Germany and attend project sites and the Berlin office as required.
