The LCSB conducts fundamental and translational research in Systems Biology and Biomedicine, focusing on neurodegenerative processes like Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease. We recruit talented scientists from various disciplines for our dynamic team.
We are seeking a highly motivated PhD candidate to join the Chemical and Molecular Neurobiology group led by Associate Prof. Ivana Nikić-Spiegel at the LCSB. Our research combines innovative approaches to investigate neuroimmune interactions and mechanisms underlying neurodegeneration.
We explore how axons maintain their structure and function, and how these processes break down in disease. You will have the opportunity to contribute to ongoing projects addressing questions such as:
* What roles do ion channels, cytoskeletal dynamics, and axonal transport play during axonal injury and neurological diseases?
* How can minimally invasive click chemistry-based labeling strategies be further developed and optimized for live-cell imaging and super-resolution microscopy?
* How do neurons, glial cells, and immune cells communicate, and how can chemical biology help address these interactions in health and disease?

You will have access to high-quality equipment and infrastructure, including modern laboratories and cutting-edge technologies.
We value teamwork, reliability, and strong communication skills. A background in molecular biology, cell culture techniques, and fluorescence microscopy is required. Experience with iPSC-derived cells, primary neuronal or glial cultures, or mouse models is highly valued.
A Master's degree (or equivalent) in a relevant field is necessary. Fluency in English is essential for effective communication within our international team.
We offer an excellent yearly gross salary for every PhD at the UL.
