Technical sales engineer (m/f/d)

The Opportunity

As a Technical Sales Engineer you will be a key technical resource supporting two of Digi's core Business Units across the EMEA region:

You will work closely with the Sales Team to close new business opportunities, support existing customers with technical and application challenges, and act as a hands-on technical champion throughout the sales cycle. A significant part of this role involves building proof-of-concept (PoC) applications — including AI-powered solutions — to demonstrate the value of Digi's products in real-world customer scenarios.

Essential Job Functions & Responsibilities

1. Understand customer business and application requirements; provide pre-sales technical and design support with prospective customers and partners over the phone, via email, and in person
2. Design and develop proof-of-concept applications to demonstrate product capabilities, with a particular focus on leveraging AI and edge computing to solve customer problems
3. Build and deploy containerised applications on Digi devices using the Digi Remote Manager and LXC to showcase edge compute scenarios
4. Act as liaison between the Sales Team and Engineering, Technical Support, Product Marketing, and Product Management
5. Provide customer training programmes and technical sales presentations as required
6. Set up, test, and replicate customer hardware, software, networking, and application issues in a lab environment
7. Develop and maintain strong technical relationships with customer and partner contacts
8. Assist in driving revenue across both Business Units

Requirements

9. Engineering Bachelor's degree in a technology discipline, or 4–6 years of equivalent relevant experience
10. Solid, hands-on Linux skills — the majority of Digi's product portfolio runs on Linux (Digi Accelerated Linux / DAL OS), making this a core day-to-day requirement
11. Strong knowledge of networking LAN/WAN principles, topologies, and protocols
12. Practical experience with cellular connectivity (4G LTE and 5G), including concepts such as SIM management, signal diagnostics, carrier failover, and WAN bonding
13. Familiarity with serial protocols (RS-232/485, Modbus or similar) relevant to industrial and infrastructure environments
14. Experience developing or scripting applications — Python, shell scripting, or similar — including the ability to build proof-of-concept solutions to support the sales process
15. Understanding of containerisation technologies (Docker, LXC, or equivalent) and experience deploying containerised workloads at the edge
16. Strong communication and presentation skills in both English and German
17. Valid driving licence and willingness to travel across the EMEA region

Beneficial

18. CCNA, CCNP, or other relevant industry networking qualifications
19. Experience with IoT device management platforms
20. Knowledge of USB over IP, console server management, or out-of-band network management
21. Familiarity with industrial automation protocols and environments (SCADA, RTU etc.)
22. Experience with Wi-Fi technologies and deployment
23. Understanding of the solution sales approach and how all components of a connected solution fit together

About the Products You Will Work With

Cellular Solutions

Digi's cellular router portfolio spans enterprise, industrial, and transportation categories, with products such as the Digi IX40, IX30, TX40, TX64, and EX50. These devices run DAL OS (a hardened Linux distribution), support edge compute via containerisation, and are managed through Digi Remote Manager. Key technologies include Digi SureLink® persistent connectivity, Digi TrustFence® security and WAN Bonding.

Infrastructure Management

This portfolio addresses the connectivity needs of critical IT and industrial infrastructure, encompassing serial device servers and terminal servers, USB over IP solutions (AnywhereUSB), console servers for out-of-band management, and industrial automation controllers. These products are widely deployed in utilities, healthcare, logistics, retail, and education environments.
