For more information on Dexter Magnetic Technologies, please visit: https://www.dextermag.com/ Basic Purpose and Objective of the Position: The Magnetic Design Engineer is responsible for the design, simulation and validation of permanent magnet systems and magnetic assemblies for high-tech industries including Aerospace, Defense, Medical, Semiconductor and Energy. The role focuses on developing technically optimized magnetic solutions by combining analytical calculations, FEM simulation and laboratory testing. The position supports customer development projects, contributes to the establishment of the European magnetics laboratory and collaborates closely with global engineering teams to transfer technical know-how and best practices. This role ensures that magnetic system performance, material selection and validation methodologies meet technical, quality and manufacturability requirements while supporting the build-up of PERMAG’s European engineering capability. Major Responsibilities : Develop magnetic concepts, calculations and optimization approaches for permanent magnets and magnetic assemblies. Perform simulations (e.g., Ansys Maxwell, COMSOL or similar tools) to analyze magnetic field distribution, saturation effects and tolerance sensitivities. Evaluate and select magnetic materials (NdFeB, SmCo, AlNiCo, ferrites) considering temperature behavior, corrosion resistance and application requirements. Plan, execute and analyze laboratory measurements such as hysteresis loops, remanence, coercivity and stray field evaluations. Support customer technical discussions, testing activities and design reviews in collaboration with Technical Project Leads and Sales. Create technical documentation including simulation reports, test protocols and engineering recommendations. Support development and standardization of laboratory methods, simulation practices and validation procedures. Collaborate closely with U.S. engineering experts to transfer magnetics knowledge and support European capability build-up. Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering processes and tools. Responsibilities may evolve in line with business needs, within the scope of this role. Qualifications: Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Mechatronics, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical discipline with focus on magnetics. Minimum 3–5 years of experience in magnetic system design, simulation or laboratory testing. Hands-on experience with magnetic measurements, field analysis or materials characterization is preferred. Experience working in technical development environments or engineering laboratories is advantageous. Exposure to Aerospace, Medical, Semiconductor or precision manufacturing industries is a plus. Technical Skills: Strong understanding of magnetic fields, magnetic circuits and magnetic materials. Experience with simulation tools (e.g., Ansys Maxwell, COMSOL, Flux or similar). Knowledge of laboratory measurement equipment and data analysis methods. Understanding of tolerances, physical behavior of materials and design-to-manufacture principles. Familiarity with technical documentation standards and engineering workflows. Language Skills: German (B2–C1), English (B2–C1)
