The role is within the HAFAS.engine team. The HAFAS.engine product offers a powerful API to mobility platforms, enabling web apps and mobile apps to provide journey planning and other mobility information functionalities to travelers. The core of HAFAS.engine is its routing capabilities, complemented by features like departure boards for public transport and live locations of shared vehicles. HAFAS.engine is utilized by major traveler information systems in Europe (e.g. DB, SBB, ÖBB, SNCF, RENFE, RMV, BVG) and around the world.

As a (senior) software developer with focus routing algorithm, you will develop HAFAS.engine, the backend of our travel planning and information system. Your responsibilities will include:Your Role:
1. Design and develop innovative routing algorithms, while enhancing our existing solutions.
2. Focus on algorithms for public transport routing in C++, integrating street network routing, and related functionality like name autocomplete and geometric questions - during both preparation and request processing.
3. Deliver clear and reliable solutions that handle the diverse data-driven needs of our customers.
4. Prioritize quality management and help implement changes thoughtfully and carefully.
5. Consider performance in core algorithms, while keeping the overall solution in mind.
6. Understand use-cases and advise product management in defining the product standards
Your Profile:
7. Completed studies in engineering, mathematics, computer science or a comparable field, alternatively relevant professional experience in software development.
8. You are passionate about transforming the way we travel by creating the travel information systems of the future.
9. Deep understanding of the mobility ecosystem and its actors.
10. Strong algorithmic background with a first experience in routing algorithms for public transport and intermodal routing.
11. The ability to understand and build complex logic, while also breaking down these topics to be explainable to our B2B customers and travelers.
12. Experience in software development in C++ or Java or similar.
13. Good presentation skills to internal and external stakeholders.
14. Excellent English communication skills, German is a big plus.
