Job Purpose: The Tax Group Manager will be the head of the Tax function in Germany, as part of the Finance organisation, requiring deep technical knowledge of direct and indirect taxes as well as being flexible in managing other elements of taxation that are relevant for a large multi-national financial institution.
Responsibilities
* Lead and direct a team of professionals based in and outside of Germany including performance evaluation, compensation, hiring and budget approval.
* Advise senior colleagues within the Bank and manage relationships with tax authorities, regulators and advisors.
* Communicate effectively, with the ability to negotiate at senior levels and to respond to robust challenges.
* Possess a qualification as Steuerberater (m / w / d) / Tax Advisor (m / f / d) as this expertise is crucial for strategic alignment and practical implementation of tax matters.
* Responsible for the overall management of the tax liabilities of Citi Germany, including corporate taxes, VAT, withholding taxes and payroll taxes, including related compliance, financial reporting, planning and controversy processes.
* Present updates and technical positions up to and including Board level.
* Assist in determining and compiling information required for income tax filing and related requirements at all jurisdiction levels.
* May participate in managing payments to tax authorities in compliance with specific tax regulations.
* Direct and control strategy and execution of tax activities, including transfer pricing, VAT, business taxes and other ad hoc queries.
* Recommend goals, policies, and plans for these areas with the most senior executives of the firm.
* Partner with wider business teams to improve efficiency, effectiveness, productivity and control.
* Operate as a key member of the Citi Europe Tax Cluster team and represent the firm in dealings with clients and external bodies.
* Manage and develop staff within the Tax function both domestically and internationally, and maintain local relationships with advisors, regulators and tax authorities.
* Assess risk when making business decisions, safeguarding Citi, its clients and assets, and ensuring compliance with applicable laws and policies; escalate, manage and report control issues with transparency and supervise the activity of others.
* Have flexibility and tax technical skills to serve as a subject matter expert for other jurisdictions outside Germany; will support local Finance colleagues in those locations, interact with advisors and assist with tax policy decisions in other countries when needed.

Qualifications
* Bachelors degree, potentially Masters degree
* Steuerberater (m / w / d) / Tax Advisor (m / f / d)
* Experience of working within a multinational company is an advantage
* Fluent in German and English
