The Translational Neurodegeneration Section “Albrecht Kossel” at the Department of Neurology is investigating the mechanism of physiological and pathological aging as well as the pathophysiology of neurodegeneration. We are furthermore interested in potential systemic side effects of metal alloys (e.g. from hip implants) on the central nervous system.
The GRK 2901/1 SYLOBIO investigates mechanisms related to local and systemic tolerance of biomaterials used in joint replacement surgery and for the treatment of chronic wounds. The Research Training Group offers an excellent research platform with links to genomics (multi-omics), immunology, microbiology, cell biology and materials science, utilising state-of-the-art methods and technologies. The interdisciplinary research is complemented by extensive systems biology, bioinformatics and epidemiological studies.
To strengthen our team in the Translational Neurodegeneration “Albrecht Kossel”, we are seeking a PhD student (m/f/d) for the DFG Research Training Group 2901/1 SYLOBIO, starting from July 1st 2026, a part-time (26 hours per week) PhD student for a fixed-term contract of 4 years, remunerated in accordance with TV-L13.
Your tasks and perspective
The successful candidate should have a Master or equivalent degree in biological sciences and should be proficient in molecular and cell biology techniques such as histology, PCR, western blot, immunofluorescence. Previous experience in the field of neuroscience is desirable. Publications in international peer reviewed journals and active participation in conferences are advantageous. Written and spoken English language proficiency, knowledge of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Fiji and biomedical statistics are mandatory.
