We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Research Associate Bioinformatics to join our Hamburg bioinformatics team. In this role, you will contribute to the processing and analysis of complex omics datasets, support research teams across various domains, and help develop scalable bioinformatics solutions that drive innovation in drug discovery and biomedical research.

Responsibilities:
1. Process and analyse multi-modal omics data, including short- and long-read sequencing data, e.g. Illumina, Nanopore, whole genome/exon sequencing, RNA-seq (bulk and single-cell), epigenomic datasets (e.g., ChIP-seq, ATAC-seq), etc.
2. Develop, maintain, and optimize bioinformatics workflows and applications for data processing, visualization, and exploration.
3. Provide bioinformatics support to interdisciplinary research teams, contributing expertise across various scientific domains.
4. Collaborate effectively with internal scientists and stakeholders, fostering a productive and innovative research environment.
5. Participate in project meetings with internal and external partners, communicating results and contributing to strategic planning.
Qualifications:
6. Master’s degree with several years of relevant experience, or a PhD in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Statistics, Applied Computer Science, or a related field.
7. Strong foundation in bioinformatics methods and tools, particularly in the context of omics data analysis.
8. Proficiency in at least one programming language (e.g., Python, R).
9. Hands-on experience in the implementation of bioinformatics pipelines and analytical workflows, (e.g., RNA-seq differential expression, variant calling from WGS, peak calling in ChIP-seq/ATAC-seq)
10. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work both independently, collaboratively, and efficiently in a fast-paced, interdisciplinary environment.
11. Fluency in English, both written and spoken.
12. Proficiency in working within a Linux environment is required.
13. Experience with high-performance computing (HPC) environments is a plus.
14. Experience with workflow management systems (e.g. Snakemake, Nextflow, CWL) is a plus
15. Experience with Git version control and code review processes is a plus
16. Background in neurobiology and experience working on related projects is a plus.
17. Understanding of the drug discovery process is a plus.
