EMBL's IT Services team delivers and supports IT infrastructure and services across our sites in Heidelberg, Barcelona, Rome Grenoble and Hamburg. The Desktop Support team in Heidelberg provides high-quality first-level and desktop support to a diverse, international user community, while also managing key Windows backend services. In addition, the team plays an important role in EMBL's scientific training mission by providing and maintaining IT training environments for the EMBL Advanced Training Centre.
We are looking for an experienced, service-oriented IT Support Engineer to join ourDesktop Support team at EMBL Headquarters in Heidelberg, Germany.
Your roleProvide professional desktop support for macOS, Windows, and Linux systems, as well as mobile devicesManage system and software deployments using enterprise tools (e.g. Microsoft SCCM, JAMF Pro)Configure and maintain user environments, including accounts, network access, printing, and email servicesDiagnose and resolve hardware and software issues across supported platformsDeliver a responsive, user-focused helpdesk service with a strong emphasis on customer satisfactionTrack, document, and manage support requests in line with IT service management best practicesContribute to the continuous improvement of IT services, infrastructure and user experienceYou haveAt least 2 years of professional experience in an IT support environmentA degree in computer science or equivalent practical experienceHands-on experience managing and supporting Windows, Linux and macOS systems, including desktop and mobile platformsFamiliarity with Microsoft Active Directory, Exchange and Microsoft 365 servicesExperience integrating desktop and mobile devices into enterprise IT environments, including network, file, email and collaboration servicesKnowledge of virtualisation and VDI technologies (e.g. VMware Horizon)Strong analytical, troubleshooting and organisational skillsExcellent communication skills and fluency in EnglishYou may also haveExperience with enterprise software deployment and configuration management tools (e.g. Microsoft SCCM, JAMF Pro)German language skillsWhy join usEMBL is curiosity-driven, community-oriented and international.
