The role
As a Senior Backend Engineer on our cross-functional team, you’ll play a pivotal role in ensuring HelloFresh communicates seamlessly with millions of customers. You'll design, implement, and maintain robust, high-performance distributed systems that support effective customer engagement at scale. This includes creating reliable solutions for executing campaigns that drive impact across our global customer base.
Interacting with frontend engineers, product managers and our teams around the world is very much part of our day-to-day, so communication skills are vital. We are looking for strong problem-solvers who can apply their engineering skills to a wide range of platforms and environments while also acting as an ambassador to coach team members and stakeholders.
What you’ll do
Work in a cross-functional team typically comprising 6-10 people using a wide range of technologies and frameworks. Your team will be a place where your thoughts and opinions matter and your contributions will have a tremendous impact on the team's success.
1. Take ownership of the architecture, design, development, deployment, and operations of our microservices, using modern AI tools, DevOps practices, pair programming, and other cutting-edge methodologies.
2. Be an active, solution-oriented member of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams collaborating with product owners, frontend Engineers, data engineers and business intelligence teams.
3. Having an in-depth understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, acting as an ambassador for software solutions offering support and mentorship to colleagues
4. Work with state-of-the-art technologies like Kafka, RabbitMQ, Spark, Kubernetes, Istio, Helm, Terraform, and more.
What you’ll bring
5. Expertise in end-to-end development processes using Python, including unit, integration & functional testing, application tuning/profiling, and continuous integration
6. Solid backend experience working with an event-driven microservices architecture
7. Experience working with relational databases, like PostgreSQL, and object stores, like AWS S3
8. You thrive in the opportunity to collaborate and mentor team members, while also sharing practical knowledge and trends
9. [Nice to have] Familiarity with monitoring and alerting tools like Prometheus, Grafana, or Datadog
10. [Nice to have] Practical experience integrating marketing vendors like Salesforce Marketing Cloud, Iterable, and HubSpot
11. [Nice to have] Experience integrating third-party messaging APIs for SMS and push notifications (e.g., Twilio, Sinch, AWS SNS)
