Account Director
The Account Director is the senior account lead responsible for one large brand or a portfolio of multiple brands, with overall accountability for client partnership, strategic direction, and commercial performance. This role acts as a trusted advisor to senior client stakeholders while leading internal cross functional teams to deliver high quality, integrated work.
Client leadership and strategic presence
The Account Director brings an authoritative and informed presence to all client and internal engagements, operating with a strategic mindset and a clear point of view.
* Acts as the senior day to day lead for the account, representing the agency with confidence and credibility
* Demonstrates sound judgement in choosing the most effective communication approach, whether in person, by phone, or in writing
* Identifies potential risks, sensitivities, or delivery challenges early and leads proactive, solution focused responses
* Escalates issues appropriately and partners with senior agency leadership to protect the client relationship
Relationship building and partnership
The role is centred on building strong, trusted relationships both internally and externally, enabling collaboration and long term account growth.
* Builds deep trust and personal equity with cross functional internal teams
* Works closely with strategy partners to provide proactive points of view on brand milestones, competitor activity, and relevant market developments
* Recognised by clients as a leading voice and primary strategic partner
* Expands relationships beyond core contacts to include extended client teams such as research, sales training, medical, and commercial stakeholders
* Manages upwards with a clear and coherent narrative on overall account performance
* Mentors and develops junior team members to strengthen capability and performance
Operational excellence
The Account Director is accountable for the quality and consistency of delivery across all assigned brands and projects, ensuring work is strategically grounded and executed to a high standard.
* Oversees all aspects of brand and portfolio delivery, ensuring alignment to agreed strategy and objectives
* Ensures junior team members deliver strong account management outputs
* Leads the development of strategic project briefs and secures client alignment on scope, assumptions, and deliverables
* Reviews key deliverables to ensure they meet quality standards and client expectations
* Manages cross functional teams to deliver organised, engaging reviews of creative and strategic work
* Activates the right expertise at the right time to drive key brand and account workstreams forward
Financial stewardship and commercial accountability
The Account Director holds full accountability for the financial health of the account, balancing delivery excellence with commercial discipline.
* Maintains oversight of total account budgets through close collaboration with project management teams and senior stakeholders
* Acts as final reviewer and approver of project estimates, statements of work, and financial trackers
* Provides accurate monthly forecasts to agency leadership and transparently flags any risks to revenue
* Leads internal phasing and utilisation processes, clearly communicating changes and implications
Leadership and contribution to the agency
Beyond account delivery, the Account Director plays an active role in strengthening the wider agency and demonstrating long term leadership potential.
* Contributes to the broader agency community and builds strong internal relationships
* Partners with strategy and creative teams to spearhead brand planning and deliver innovative ideas
* Handles challenging conversations with clients and internal teams with professionalism and respect
* Champions live interactions to ensure strong client experiences and agency presence
