At the Fraunhofer Institute for Laser Technology ILT, we may not be developing swords to fight the dark side of the Force, but our developments often sound like science fiction. That's because we are designing the technologies and processes for the future of digital production, packaging and scanner technology, and many other laser-based applications, such as 3D printing and laser fusion.
In the Data Science and Measurement Technology department, we work on digital solutions for laser-based manufacturing. We combine simulation, data analysis, and modern measurement technology to digitally map and optimize real-world processes.
The Computational Methods group develops models and simulations for laser beam sources, laser systems, and manufacturing processes. We use numerical simulation, artificial intelligence, and quantum algorithms.
We are looking for a student assistant to support us in the development, implementation, and application of simulation codes—e.g., in the areas of laser material processing, fusion research, or quantum computing. The work will be carried out on site at Fraunhofer ILT in Aachen; remote work is not planned.
Be part of change
* Together with the team, you will work on modeling and implementing simulation code
* As part of the further development of our software, you will test and validate existing simulations
* You will program visualization and evaluation tools to analyze the results
* You will document your work in a comprehensible manner
What you contribute
* You are currently studying physics, mathematics, computer science, mechanical engineering, or electrical engineering
* You are interested in mathematical modeling of complex problems, especially in the field of laser technology
* Ideally, you have some programming experience with Python and numerical methods—prior knowledge is helpful but not required
