The role involves working across cloud offerings, from Ubuntu to virtualization, private cloud, Kubernetes, and advanced open source solutions like MLops platforms and data platforms. As Canonical expands into new industries, the role includes designing and developing new open source solutions.

The role of a Cloud Field Engineering Manager at Canonical
The team of cloud solutions architects works directly with customers to design private and public cloud solutions, including on-premise options like Openstack, MicroCloud, Ceph, and deployment solutions like Kubernetes, Kubeflow, Spark, PostgreSQL. Managers oversee deployment, testing, and handover, and participate in presales to advise customers.
The manager is responsible for line management, career guidance, technical representation, collaboration, and participating in presales to meet quarterly goals.

This role is home-based, managing a team in your time zone.
Your daily responsibilities include:
1. Leading and developing a team of Field engineers in Presales and Professional Services
2. Solving customer problems and acting as a trusted advisor
3. Working remotely within a major time zone
4. Mentoring and providing career feedback
5. Monitoring team health indicators
6. Implementing disciplined engineering processes
7. Representing your team and product to stakeholders, partners, and customers
8. Promoting best engineering and organizational practices
9. Planning and managing project progress
10. Participating in leadership team collaborations
Desired skills and experience:
* Knowledge of cloud computing technologies such as Kubernetes, Openstack, AWS, GCP, Azure, Ceph
* Practical Linux and networking skills
* Experience in technical presales
* Strong communication skills in English
* Experience in developing and mentoring engineers
* Organizational skills to ensure timely, high-quality results
* Academic excellence from high school and preferably university
* Willingness to travel up to 40%
Additional desirable skills:
* Second language (Spanish or French)
* Python knowledge
* Experience working with external partners
* Stakeholder feedback experience for engineering roadmaps
