Our Optical Communications segment has recently evolved from being a manufacturer of optical fiber and cable, hardware and equipment to being a comprehensive provider of industry-leading optical solutions across the broader communications industry.This segment is classified into two main product groupings – carrier network and enterprise network. The carrier network product group consists primarily of products and solutions for optical-based communications infrastructure for services such as video, data and voice communications. The enterprise network product group consists primarily of optical-based communication networks sold to businesses, governments and individuals for their own use.
Overview:
The sustainability working student position is part of the corporate global sustainability regulatory reporting initiatives Center of Excellence and extended team, which is responsible for preparing Corning to meet all global sustainability regulatory reporting requirements including but not limited to EUDR, CSRD, and CSDDD as well as ranking and rating through CDP, EcoVadis, RBA and others. In addition, the corporate sustainability team is also responsible for reducing the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions of Corning and helping to keep global warming below 1.5 degrees Celsius through various initiatives and programs in collaboration with our many business units.
Key Responsibilities:
The working student will be engaged in and support various sustainability activities that can include:
1. Leading the data collection and analysis effort, as well as engaging with internal subject matter experts and utilizing AI to draft and optimize responses for key sustainability reporting programs.
2. Leading an effort ensure that we have
3. Build training / education materials for sustainability professionals.
4. Support data collection and analysis from our business units and manufacturing sites to generate insights, as well as to support our GHG accounting efforts.
5. Leading the creation of tools to visualize and track sustainability progress, customer sustainability requirements, sustainability intel, and other shareholder needs.
6. Working with our Global Supply Management organization to quantify our suppliers’ GHG emissions and help find ways to reduce the GHG emission in the products and services we purchase.
7. Supporting resource efficiency and material utilization / waste reduction efforts.
This role will equip the working student with real-life industrial experiences and challenges that will help them develop further expertise in the area of sustainability.

Education and Experience:
12. Pursuing a BS or MS in environmental science, engineering, or related science discipline
Required Skills:
13. Self-motivated multidisciplinary team player and eager to learn
14. Strong organizational skills and detail-oriented
15. Adaptable, creative and demonstrates good written and oral communication skills
16. Strong interest in sustainability, climate, environmental, and social issues
17. Proficient in Word, Excel and PowerPoint

Desired Skills:
20. Knowledge/experience in compiling and analyzing data sets
21. Knowledge/experience in one of the following: environmental science, critical materials/minerals, glassy materials, energy
22. Experience with Python and Power App Data Visualization
Travel Requirements:
No requirements, however, there may be opportunities to see other Corning facilities.
Hours of work / work schedule / flextime:
20 hours per week during lecture periods / up to 40 hours per week in semester breaks
