PhD student Immunology (DFG-funded Research Unit (RU 5930)

Institut für Anatomy

How do adaptive immune responses contribute to vascular inflammation and disease?

We are looking for a highly motivated doctoral researcher to investigate the role of CD4⁺ T cells in vascular pathologies. The Institute in Lübeck invites applications for a doctoral research position (65% TV-L E13, 4 years). The position is embedded in a DFG-funded Research Unit (RU 5930), a multidisciplinary collaboration investigating immune mechanisms that drive vascular diseases such as pulmonary arterial hypertension, atherosclerosis, and systemic sclerosis. The project, led by PD Dr med Jens Humrich and Prof. Dr. rer. nat. Kathrin Kalies, focuses on identifying and characterizing CD4⁺ T cell subsets in patients and mouse models. Using advanced immune phenotyping and T cell receptor repertoire analysis, the project aims to uncover how specific T cell populations contribute to vascular inflammation and disease progression.
The successful candidate will join a small and supportive research group with close supervision and a collaborative atmosphere. Through the Research Unit, the candidate will interact with clinicians, immunologists, and vascular biologists and benefit from a highly interdisciplinary research environment.
