Principal BMS Industrial System Architect
Locations: Munich, Germany OR Toulouse, France
A pioneering global leader in semiconductor technology is seeking a Principal BMS Industrial System Architect to join their team. The company is at the forefront of powering the green energy transition, and this role offers the opportunity to shape the next generation of industrial energy storage solutions.
As a technical authority, you will define, assess, and drive end‑to‑end Battery Management System (BMS) architectures for Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) and related industrial applications. Operating at a system level across hardware, firmware, safety, and cloud interfaces, you will translate market needs into scalable, robust BMS solutions.
Key Responsibilities
* System Architecture & Leadership: Define and own BMS system architectures for industrial BESS (utility-scale, C&I, microgrids, data centres). Drive architectural trade-offs across hardware, software, safety, and cost.
* Customer Engagement: Act as the primary technical authority interface toward industrial BMS customers and system integrators, supporting early-stage concept definitions through to final execution.
* Reliability & Compliance: Drive system-level approaches for diagnostics, redundancy, and fault tolerance while ensuring strict alignment with industrial energy storage regulations.
* Validation & Reference Platforms: Guide validation concepts, defining the scope for reference designs, demonstrators, and proof-of-concept platforms.
* Roadmap Influence: Direct future product and system roadmaps by identifying technology gaps and proposing next-generation features for future BMS ICs.
What You Will Bring
* Education: BSEE required; MSEE or PhD preferred.
* Experience: 10+ years of experience within BMS, energy storage systems (BESS), power electronics, or industrial system architecture.
* BMS Expertise: Deep system-level understanding of stationary energy storage, battery technologies, lifetime optimization, and BMS algorithms (SOC, SOH, protection).
* Technical Design: Strong grasp of embedded systems, mixed-signal architectures, industrial communication interfaces, and safety/redundancy strategies.
* Desirable Knowledge: Insight into Data Centre power infrastructure, Robotics electrification, or edge connectivity/energy management systems.
* Soft Skills: A natural mentor with a system-thinking mindset, capable of driving technical direction and engaging effortlessly with international stakeholders.
Why Join the Company?
This is a rare chance to take on a principal-level role where your architectural decisions will heavily influence a global industrial roadmap. The company offers a highly collaborative, international environment with the flexibility of hybrid working across two of Europes premier engineering hubs.
