Any secunet LocationInvolves infrequent travel We’re looking for a seasoned frontend engineer to pioneer our enterprise-wide Design System as the team’s first full-time member. In this highly impactful role, you’ll lay the foundation for a scalable, resilient, and forward-looking UI component library built on React. You’ll take ownership of the design system’s architecture, maintenance, and strategic direction, shaping both its technical and cultural evolution.
Your work will bridge the gap between design and development: you’ll collaborate closely with interdisciplinary teams within and beyond our organization to foster an open, inclusive, and collaborative design culture. The Software Factory is secunet’s innovation program, designed to provide the technical means to develop entirely new product classes. It consists of a team of highly motivated software engineers focused on cutting-edge, security-focused shared components, and a DevSecOps platform that supports the entire lifecycle of our products. Responsibilities
6. Build and maintain the core infrastructure of our Design System
7. Develop a sustainable architecture for React-based UI components (HTML, CSS, JS/TS).
8. Collaborate with design teams to identify needs early and deliver consistent solutions.
9. Foster a collaborative, Open Source-inspired culture around the Design System.
10. Contribute to the long-term strategy and support the launch of new initiatives.
11. Researching emerging UI trends to keep the framework future ready.
12. Align priorities across teams and moderate between different needs
Your Profile
13. Extensive experience in frontend development
14. Experience with UI components and design systems
15. Passion for clean, reusable, and well-documented UI components
16. Background in maintainer ship and a strong affinity for open-source collaboration
17. Excellent communication skills to align needs and co-create solutions
18. Strategic mindset and interest in sustainable technology design
19. Comfortable working across disciplines – from design to development to product
20. Familiarity with the German language, while not strictly required, is an advantage
Bonus Points
21. Experience with design tokens and maintaining component libraries
22. Familiarity with Figma and close collaboration with designers
23. Knowledge of Nix build system is a plus – willingness to learn is expected
